The Best Car Ad You’ll See Today: Volkswagen Tiguan Translator

We’ve seen more car-related ads trying to capture our attention than we can remember, but very few actually manage to pull it off like the way the Brazilian division of the BBDO advertising agency did with its “Volkswagen Tiguan: Translator” commercial.

The TV ad was created to show off the SUV’s hands free park assist system. Being that the whole point of this commercial is the element of surprise, we won’t spoil the ending by telling you what happens. Enjoy the clip after the break,

Kanye West Beware: BMW’s 1-Series Composes its Own Music

It’s a fact that car manufacturers go to great lengths to promote their new products. Traditional means like TV and press advertising are so last year –and so is celebrity endorsement, though they are still employed by the carmakers. However, the new place to be are the social media, like Facebook, Twitter and Youtube.

BMW has gone one step further in promoting its brand-new 2012 1-Series: it has created a video clip named “check my machine” which shows the process of manufacturing the car.

VW’s Force is Strong: German Brand Scoops 34 Awards in Cannes

Volkswagen won an amazing 34 “Lions” in the 58th International Festival of Creativity in Cannes. The German automaker, which came away with more awards than ever before (8 Golden, 14 silver and 11 Bronze), also won a “Titanium Lion” for the “Think Blue” campaign.

However, the star of the show was, of course, “The Force”, Volkswagen’s extremely successful TV ad that features a Lilliputian Darth Vader wannabe and the new Passat. This ad alone, which has been watched by over 40 million viewers on Youtube, won three awards, two Gold and one Bronze.

Point, Click and Hold: Peugeot’s Novel Ad Campaign Makes Users Concentrate on Their Computer Screens

Ever see one of those stupid competitions where a group of people try and see who can keep their hands on a car or a truck the longest, and the person who does actually wins that car or truck?

If you haven’t, there’s a documentary called Hands on a Hard Body that covers this in detail, but suffice to say it’s like watching American Idol if all the contestants were unemployed hicks and weren’t required to do anything but stand up there on stage.

So French carmaker Peugeot, never being one to shy away from reinventing something old for the internet age, took the concept and turned it into an interactive webpage.

The new two-seat Coupé from MINI has just landed on the internet, but the British firm is already pushing out its new marketing campaign with the release of the first promo clip.

Kia Reunites Joyride Characters for New 2012 Sorento Ad

Though not as successful as their music-loving hamster counterparts, Kia’s oddball cast of life-size children's characters from last year’s Joyride commercials are back for a new advertising campaign.

Muno, Sock Monkey, MR. X, the vintage robot and teddy bear will star in two new 30-second TV spots for the 2012 Sorento CUV. As with the original campaign, "Joyride 2" was created by David&Goliath, KMA's advertising agency of choice. The first commercial begins airing today and will be followed up by the second spot next month.

Jeep’s Drive Your Track Lets you Plan World Road Trip from Your Music

I’ve been trying out Jeep’s Drive Your Track website for their Wrangler model’s Infinity Sound System. You start by uploading a song from your hard drive: I chose Gary Numan’s, “Cars” for reasons that should be readily apparent.

It takes a few minutes to load your song, and then the sound waves are somehow mapped to certain geographical features from around the world.

You end up with eight or so places, which for me included the Appalachian Mountains, the Himalayas, the Andes, the Ural Mountains and Colorado Rockies.

Honda's Down-Under 'Hybrid' Billboards

In an Australian media first, Honda has installed a series of massive 'hybrid' billboards that are illuminated by solar power and backed up by 'green' energy electric (hence the somewhat misleading 'hybrid' title), for its new Honda Accord Euro. In cooperation with outdoor advertising specialists, APN Outdoor, Honda has installed the solar panels on several of its Accord billboards around the country. "Honda's well-earned reputation for minimising its environmental impact made this opportunity very attractive," said Honda Australia Marketing Manager, John Pranger. "Our goal is to leave blue skies for our kids and harnessing natural energy sources goes a long way to achieve this."

Hyundai Genesis Coupe to Star in Race-Inspired Super Bowl Ads

Hyundai will air its first two television advertisements for the new 2010 Genesis Coupe during the Super Bowl XLIII on Sunday, February 1, 2009. The two distinct 30-second spots will see race driver Rhys Millen getting behind the wheel of the 306HP Genesis Coupe 3.8L V6. Millen will navigate the rear-wheel drive sports car around the 2.54-mile, 12-turn race track at Road Atlanta in Northeast Georgia to show off the Genesis Coupe's capabilities.

The first commercial that will air in the first half of the game will be choreographed to music performed by Yo-Yo Ma in the version. A second musical talent will be introduced in the following 30-second spot, featuring re-edited precision driving footage matched to a completely distinct soundtrack.

"Genesis Coupe is Hyundai's most dynamic performance car ever and it is the second-consecutive all-new model introduction from Hyundai to debut during the Super Bowl," said Joel Ewanick, vice president of Marketing, Hyundai Motor America. "So many elements come together in these advertisements that showcase the Genesis Coupe's design and performance that we know it will cast a halo over the entire brand."

Aside from the range-topping 3.8-liter V6 version, the Genesis Coupe will also be offered with a 30-mpg 2.0-liter model with a low-pressure intercooled four-cylinder turbocharged engine producing 210 horsepower.

Video: Ad Makes Fun of Lada 2107

Once upon a time, well before the Tata Nano minicar came into the picture, the Lada 2107 (and all its derivatives) was one of the cheapest forms of 4wheel-transportation that money could buy. Of course, being based on the obsolete Fiat 124, terms like luxury and safety simply didn’t exist in the 2107’s vocabulary. This funny computer generated advert attempts to mock these non-existing qualities of the 2107 in a totally hilarious way. In the end, the title says: “The Legendary Lada 2107 – Quality. Tradition. Safety.” -Video after the jump

BMW M3 Convertible TV Ad Mocks Mercedes SL

Our friend Henri discovered this BMW M3 Convertible German TV spot that takes a direct hit on the Mercedes-Benz SL by making it look like a boring roadster that’s good enough only for romance. It’s not the first time that BMW attempts to show the qualities of its cars by comparing them with the opposition. As you might remember, a couple of weeks ago we showed you the BMW X3 TV ad that ridicules American SUVs –click here. Check out the BMW M3 TV advert right after the jump. -Continued

Oscar Mayer’s Wienermobile Downsizes, Now Based on MINI Cooper

This whole gas price thing is taking its toll on everyone – even Oscar Mayer who decided its time to put its famous Wienermobile into the dryer and base it on a MINI Cooper. These pictures were shot by our friend Michelle (you may remember her from the Nissan 280Z based Ferrari 250GTO replica) who captured the MINI Wienermobile on her way home in Gurnee Illinois.

Oscar Mayer’s modern interpretation of the Wienermobile is a far cry from the 2000 hot-dog car that measured a fearsome 27 feet or 8.2 meters in length and was powered by GM’s 5.7-liter V8 Vortec engine. Wonder what’s next; a Smart Fortwo Wienermobile? -More images after the jump

    Thanks for the pics Michelle!

Video: Chevrolet Ridicules Citroen’s C4 Transformer Ad

You probably all remember Citroen’s illustrious C4 Transformer TV spots a couple of years ago (click here). Well, GM woke up on the wrong side of the bed one day and decided that it was time to answer back with its new Chevrolet Aveo advert. Even though the car that transforms into a robot is in part a previous generation Ford Focus, it is evident that GM’s intentions are to spoof Citroen’s Transformer ads by addressing its vehicles’ electronic reliability issues. -Video after the jump

Subaru Dealer Creates “See-Through” Legacy Outback

A creative Subaru dealer in Carlisle, UK has come up with an imaginative idea to promote the Japanese carmaker’s all-new boxer diesel versions of the Legacy. The dealer wrapped a diesel-powered Legacy Outback with a vinyl wrap meticulously replicating the car’s “infrastructure” thus making it appear as if some parts are made from see-through glass.

In particular, the dealer wrapped the hood to illustrate every engine detail along with the side of the car which shows the engine plus Subaru’s symmetrical all-wheel drive system and even the exhaust silencer. We don’t know about the side wrap, but we could definitely see the “engine wrap” becoming a hit among Subaru enthusiasts.

Volkswagen Touareg “Mud” Print Advert

This creative print advert for Volkswagen's Touareg SUV was created by the advertising agency DDB in Buenos Aires, Argentina. At first sight, it looks like the ad simply depicts a muddy rear window of a Touareg. Take a closer look though and you’ll see that the mud forms a picturesque scene. Nice. Lamborghini Print Ads: “Feels Italian Wherever You Are”

The same German advertising agency that created the wonderful Lamborghini print campaign with the subject heading “Welcome to Sant’ Agata Bolognese, Home of Lamborghini" (click here) has struck again. This time, “Philipp und Keuntje” attempt to show us how one experiences the world behind the wheel of a Lambo showing stereotypical national scenes in a pretty Italian way.

In our opinion, the “Feels Italian Wherever You Are” print campaign isn’t as successful as the company’s prior work as we find it more fit for a Fiat or an Alfa Romeo advert than one for Lamborghini. -Continued

Brilliant Baby Car Logos Advert for Minichamps

It’s been a while since we last saw a print advert that immediately caught our attention. The “baby car logos” campaign was created by Brazilian ad agency Dentsu for the well-known die-cast miniature model producer, Minichamps. The campaign consists of four print ads depicting Jaguar, Lamborghini, Ferrari and Maserati logos in baby form. Absolutely brilliant! -Image gallery after the jump
