New Gen Y Buyer Survey Spells Trouble for Detroit


    Auto pricing website TrueCar studied the car buying behaviour of four million Gen Y (18 to 27 year-old) over a twenty-four month period and here’s what they found.

    Scion took the crown for top brand, with 37.4% of the market and for top model (the tC coupe), with 21.2%, while second place went to Mitsubishi (32.1%) and their Lancer sedan (20.3%).

    Mazda was the third most visited brand for Gen Y buyers, though only 17th in terms of model. The top four vehicle choices were Japanese, with a German in seventh place and a South Korean in ninth.

The...Lime Lantern: Mazda’s Special Edition MX-5 Roadster Coupe Karai


    Another week, and rather than just another Mazda, it’s another MX-5 special edition. This one is called Karai, which according to the company is Japanese for ‘sharp’, and it comes to us from Mazda’s European division.

    The Karai is based on the MX-5 Roadster coupe, which means it is fitted with a retractable hardtop. It boasts a unique lime-green paint called “Metal Green Metallic” for the body and contrasting glossy black finish for metal top, exterior mirrors, trim accents such as the front grille and fog lamp surrounds, as well as the 17-inch multispoke alloy wheels that are shod in low profile performance tires.

Refreshed Mazda Demio goes on Sale in Japan

A Mazda MX-5 On Steroids: Australia’s V8 Engined Bullet Roadster


    In the late ‘90s, Australian John Bettini unleashed onto the word the Bullet Roadster. What begin life as a heavily modified Mazda MX-5 with an RX-7 13B powerplant gradually evolved into a V8-engined monster like the one you see here that we found for sale in Queensland, Australia.

    According to the seller, this was the fifth Bullet Roadster built and the first V8-engined one to roll out of the company’s then new Chinderah, NSW factory. It’s all hearsay, of course, but I’m willing to believe the words of a 62yo motoring enthusiast with arthritic knees. So here goes...

    Bullet No. 5 was a special order from a man named George Covacic who supplied a 4.6-liter all-alloy, fuel injected V8 crate motor along with a Tremac 5-speed manual transmission and the differential from a Holden Commodore SS. Like all Bullet supercars, the brakes and suspension came from the Mazda RX-7.

Mazda’s Legendary 787B Le-Mans Winner to Race at Goodwood


    It’s been 20 years already, yet it feels like yesterday when Mazda in 1991 became the first, and to date, the only Japanese manufacturer to win the legendary 24 Hours of Le Mans endurance race. Mazda and Sumitomo to Open New Plant in Mexico, Sales Company in Brazil


    Mazda Motor Corporation announced today that it is opening a new production facility in Mexico, and a sales company in Brazil, both in collaboration with Sumitomo. The Japanese manufacture proceeded with these moves in order to strengthen its presence in the rapidly growing Central and South American markets. Sticker Shock: U.S. Used Car Prices Soar as Nation Tackles Weak Economy and More


    Well, it was bound to happen sooner or later. U.S. used car prices are up 30% over June 2010, in some cases besting Kelly Blue Book values by as much as 25%. Trade-ins are also up by 30% since this time last year.

    A variety of factors, including an economy still reeling from the Global Financial Crisis, high gas prices and the Tōhoku earthquake, are thought to be responsible for the massive price rise.

Mazda Expands CX-9 Lineup in Australia with Front-Wheel Drive Model


    Given that are many buyers are not interested in the merits of all wheel drive when it comes to shopping crossovers, Mazda decided to expand the range of its 7-seater CX-9 in Australia with the addition of a front-wheel drive [FWD] only version available in a choice of two trim levels, Classic and Luxury.

    Power for the FWD CX-9 continues to be provided by a 3.7-liter V6 engine producing 204kW (274HP) and 367Nm, mated to a 6-speed Activematic transmission. As you would expect, the FWD version is a tad more fuel efficient than the AWD model returning 11.0 lt/100km instead of 11.2lt/100km.

2009 Tokyo Auto Salon: Mazda6 Circuit Trial Version

    Even though most of the automotive world will be turning its attention this weekend towards Detroit and the 2009 North American International Auto Show, in Japan, automakers are readying their tuning proposals for the 2009 Tokyo Auto Salon that runs from January 9 to 11. Mazda will be presenting several cars at the show, including Mazdaspeed modified, track-ready versions of the new Axela, RX-8, Demio (Mazda2) and Atenza (Mazda6) called 'Circuit Trial'. In this post we've included the first photos of the Mazda6 Circuit Trial.

    Mazda6 Atenza Circuit Trial Like the other Circuit Trial models, the Mazda6 has been modified to offer higher levels of performance without sacrificing the comforts you'd expect from an everyday car. Mazdaspeed's upgrades include an M'z Custom bodykit with front, rear and side lip spoilers, race-inspired decals, a rear wing, Recaro bucket seats, sport interior trim and, larger diameter and grippier tires with dark alloy wheels made by Yokohama. The Circuit Trial Mazda6 also benefits from a lowered, sports tuned suspension and more powerful brakes.

Mazda to Present Circuit Trial Versions of New Mazda3, Mazda6 and RX-8 at Tokyo Salon

    While the 2009 Tokyo Auto Salon that will be held in Japan from January 9 to 11, isn't considered a major event from a global perspective, nevertheless Mazda has announced that it will showcase a lineup of 13 vehicles and eco-friendly technologies. Mazda's exhibits will include the next-generation Axela (known as the Mazda3 in international markets), which is being revealed for the first time in Japan. Other exhibits will include "Circuit Trial" versions of the new Axela, RX-8, Demio (Mazda2) and Atenza (Mazda6) and six customized versions of the new Biante minivan, which went on sale earlier this year.

    It goes without saying that the most attention-grabbing models are the Circuit Trial versions that have been developed by Mazdaspeed. The racing circuit ready variants of the Mazda2, Mazda6, Mazda3 and RX-8 will feature an array of equipment and performance upgrades that include M'z Custom aeroparts, Recaro bucket seats and large diameter tires and alloy wheels made by Yokohama.

Mazda Releases Special Edition Atenza Sedan in Japan

    When automakers don't have anything new to offer, they often create special edition models. Such is the case with Mazda that announced the launch of the '2.0 Style Edition' Atenza sedan which is known as the Mazda6 in overseas markets like Europe and North America. This special edition model which is available only in Japan is based on the Atenza 20C model grade and is powered by a 2.0-liter engine hooked up to a five-speed automatic transmission.

    What makes this edition special in the eyes of Mazda is a series of features that include LED indicators embedded in the door mirrors, discharge headlights, 17-inch alloy wheels wrapped around in 215/50 R17 rubber, blackout gauges (the dashboard and instrument panel dials are visible only when the engine is engaged) and a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob.

    The Atenza 2.0 Style Edition is offered in Japan with a choice of six exterior body colors, including Lilac Silver Metallic and Stormy Blue Mica which aren't available for the base model Atenza Sedan 20C.

The steering wheel is also free of remote control switches. The Audio-less spec allows for maximum variety of audio systems.)

New Mazda3 Hatchback to Make North American Debut at Detroit Show

    With all the drop outs at the 2009 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS), any news, is good news. Mazda on its behalf has confirmed that the all-new Mazda3 5-door hatchback that made its world premiere at the Bologna Show earlier this month, will make its North American debut at NAIAS which will be held in Detroit from January 11 through January 25, 2009. Like its sedan sibling, the U.S.-spec Mazda hatchback will be offered with a choice of two 4-cylinder engines, a 2.0-liter unit with 148HP and a new 2.5-liter unit with 167HP.

Mazda Launches Limited Edition Mazda2 with a Sporty Flair

    The Mazda2 “Fit for Fun” is a new special edition model that will be marketed in Germany with production limited to 400 examples. The “Fit for Fun” is based on the Mazda2 with the 86HP 1.3-liter MZR engine and its most prominent feature is the sport package that includes dark headlamps, a front apron, rear wing, painted grille, side skirts and dark grey 16-inch alloy wheels. The model also features a higher level of standard equipment with features such as automatic climate control, Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) with traction control (TCS), onboard computer and rain sensor for the windshield wipers. Prices in Germany begin from €15,800 with buyers being able to choose from two exterior colors, white or black.

Mazda Launches MX-5 /Miata Facelift in Japan - New JDM Image Gallery

     Mazda MX-5 Roadster MiataFollowing its introduction at the Paris Motor Show earlier this Fall, Mazda's updated MX-5 / Miata has finally reached the firm's Japanese dealerships. Aptly called Roadster in Japan, the open-top sportscar is priced in its domestic market from 2,330,000 to 2,600,000 yen ($25,100 - $28,000) for the soft top models, and from 2,680,000 to 2,950,000 yen ($28,900 - $31,800) for the Power Retractable Hard Top (RHT). In Japan the Roadster is available exclusively with the revamped 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine hooked up to either a 5-speed (available only on the soft-top), a 6-speed manual gearbox or in the case of the hardtop model, a 6-speed automatic transmission. Mazda to Showcase Eco-Friendly Tech at the 2008 Eco-Products Exhibition

    Mazda has announced that it will use the Eco-Products 2008 Show that takes place at Japan's Tokyo International Exhibition Center over the period December 11 -13, 2008, to display its latest eco-friendly technologies aimed to further reduce CO2 emissions. The company's main exhibit will consist of the new i-stop engine start-stop system that improves fuel economy by approximately 10 percent in Japan's fuel economy tests and is scheduled for launch in 2009 as well as the Premacy Hydrogen RE Hybrid and the RX-8 Hydrogen test vehicles. Other exhibits at Mazda's show stand will include the display of various weight reduction and material technologies.
