Euro Tuning: 2009 Dodge Challenger SRT8 Project Car by Eibach

The Dodge Challenger made its way to Europe and the Essen Motorshow thanks to suspension manufacturer, Eibach which readied a mildly tuned version of the American muscle car. While retaining the SRT8's stock 6.1-liter Hemi V8 that produces 425HP, Eibach equipped the Challenger with the Coil-Over Suspension System Multi-Pro-R2 from its US product portfolio as well as a set of Botticelli III 22-inch alloy wheels from O.Z. wrapped around in Toyo Proxes T1R tires for improved handling.

The The Eibach Challenger is also equipped with a multimedia unit from Alpine Electronics, which has been installed by the specialists of XTON from Dortmund, Germany.

Dodge’s “One Lap of America” Challenger SRT Race Car Takes Wrong Exit

To Chrysler’s misfortune, their 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8 that took part at this weekend’s One Lap of America race had a minor exit. To be specific, driver Erich Heuschele (Vehicle Dynamics Supervisor – SRT) lost control of the Challenger -which by the way, was a modified pre-production model- during the time trials and hit a tire pile on the outside wall. Luckily, no one was injured. However, chances are that the Challenger will not be able to take part in the rest of the events. -More pics after the jump

2Fast 2Furious Dodge Challenger R/T 426 Hemi Auctioned on eBay

Remember the 1970’s Dodge Challenger R/T from the 2002 “2Fast 2Furious” sequel to The Fast and the Furious Movie? Well that car is up for sale on eBay and even though it might not have matching numbers for its 426 Hemi V8 engine (it’s an R/T clone), the car was fully restored and has clocked only 80 miles on its odometer.

Question is, is it worth the $65,000 (or more as that’s the starting bid) that the seller is asking for? We’re no specialists, but it does sound a bit too much for a Hemi clone that only played a minor role in the movie. On a side note, we discovered that the car was sold last year at the Barret-Jackson Collectors Auction in Scottsdale, Arizona for $112,200… -More pics after the jump

Dodge Challenger Slated To Start From $23,995

According to report from Freep citing an unnamed Chrysler LLC top executive, prices for the 2009 Dodge Challenger will start as little as $23,995 when it goes on sale this August. It goes without saying however that the report is referring to the base Challenger SE with its 250 Hp 3.5-liter V6 matted to a 4-speed automatic gearbox and, as we saw on Dodge’s official site, with the horrifying, 17-inch wheel covers… Comparatively, the base price for the Ford Mustang Coupe V6 (210 Hp) is $19,650.

$40k Buyers: Dodge Challenger SRT8 or BMW 335i Coupe?

A couple of weekends ago we asked you to tell us if you had about $20k+, what would you buy; a base Dodge Challenger SE V6 or a VW Golf GTi – see here. To be blunt, neither of those models have that something special. The Challenger that we all openly want is of course the top-end SRT8 with its 425 Hp 6.1-liter HEMI V8

However, at about $38k, it’s just a mere $2k cheaper from one of the best RWD 4seater-coupes in the market; the BMW 335i Coupe with its high-tech, twin-turbocharged six-cylinder unit. At a first glance, the bimmer’s 305 Hp straight-six seems no match for the HEMI’s 425 Hp.

And truth is, that according to the manufacturers’ official data, the SRT8 is manages to beat the 335i in the zero to 60 MPH sprint by nearly half a second (SRT8: 4.9 sec vs 335i: 5.3 sec). On the other hand, Motortrend managed to lower the 335i’s 0-60 time to just 5.1 sec while C&D did even better with just 4.9 sec (the SRT8 hasn’t been tested yet). So having said that, where would your $40k go: the retro-styled V8 American muscle car or the sleek, high-tech German GT? Have your say at the comment section.

$20k Buyers: Dodge Challenger SE V6 or VW Golf GTI?

At the New York Auto Show, Dodge announced that the entry-level version of the 2009 Challenger coupe, the SE that’s powered by Chrysler’s 250 Hp 3.5-liter V6 unit matted to a 4-speed automatic gearbox will be priced in the low $20,000s. Now, let’s say you’re in the market searching for a brand-new sports car in that price range.

Would you prefer an underpowered but attention grabbing rear-wheel-drive coupe like the base Challenger SE from an undiluted sport hatch like the 200Hp VW Golf GTI (priced from around $22k)? We’d also like to hear what our European friends have to say if these two cars where available for the same price in their home turf. Have your say in the comment section below. Would You Buy a 4-Cylinder Camaro, Challenger or Mustang?

Speaking at the New York Auto Show, GM’s Vice Chairman Bob Lutz revealed that General Motors is considering a 4-cylinder engine for the new Chevrolet Camaro if fuel prices continue to hike. In particular, Lutz said that the drivetrain under consideration is the 260 Hp 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder unit from the Pontiac Solstice GXP.

Now that made us think how V6 and V8-hungry American buyers would react to a 4-cylinder-powered muscle car, even if we’re talking about a modern, high-output, turbocharged unit. Our question is simple; would you prefer a 4-cylinder turbocharged engine over a naturally aspirated V6 unit with a similar output but with better fuel economy ratings and lower emissions on a Ford Mustang, Chevrolet Camaro or Dodge Challenger? Tell us what you think in the comment section below. (Pic: rezza foournito)

2009 Dodge Challenger SE 250Hp V6 Priced at Low $20,000s

Earlier today we gave you the first official pictures and details on the new V6-powered Challenger SE and the V8-powered Challenger R/T models that where unveiled at the NY Show today. During the presentation that followed, Chrysler LLC Vice Chairman and President, Jim Press revealed that the prices for Dodge’s retro-penned muscle car will start in the low $20,000’s.

“If you’re looking for a car priced in the low-20s that is both cool and affordable, our new Dodge Challenger SE is it,” Press said. “The new Dodge Challenger SE has many cool features such as the MyGIG infotainment system with available navigation, a built-in iPod interface, an available 276 watt Boston Acoustics sound system and UConnect with Bluetooth capability and voice recognition in English, French or Spanish,” Press continued.

“And the SE has a 250 horsepower, 3.5L V-6 , leaving the competitor’s base 210 horsepower in the dust. But the best news is outstanding mileage. Our highway target of 25 MPG makes the Challenger SE an economy car as well. So I gotta ask, why would anyone in the market for a car in the low-20s settle for anything else, when they could have all this,” he said. –More live pics from the NY Show after the jump

"Our all-new 2009 Dodge Challenger is a modern-day muscle machine representing the best from the past and present," said Mike Accavitti, Director, Dodge Brand and SRT Global Marketing, Chrysler LLC. "Thirty-five years following the debut of the original, we are bringing Dodge Challenger back and loading it with essential hardware, styling and technology desired by today's buyer."

The Dodge Challenger is the first five-passenger, two-door coupe produced from Chrysler's proven rear-wheel-drive platform that delivers the Chrysler 300 and Dodge Charger. Developed with Dodge's credo of "bold, powerful and capable," the Challenger delivers a modern two-door muscle car.

Three models will be offered in North America: Dodge Challenger SRT8®, Dodge Challenger R/T and Dodge Challenger SE.

    Essential Hardware

The Dodge Challenger R/T features the new-generation 5.7-liter HEMI V-8 engine with a five-speed automatic transmission that produces an estimated 370 horsepower (276 kW) and 398 lb.-ft. of torque (540 N•m). The Dodge Challenger SE powered by the 3.5-liter High Output V-6 with a four-speed automatic transmission produces 250 horsepower (186 kW) and 250 lb.-ft. of torque (339 N•m).

Patterned off the Dodge Charger architecture, the front suspension and five-link independent rear suspension system on all Dodge Challenger models provide excellent ride and handling characteristics.

    Essential Styling

The Dodge Challenger design team stayed true to the concept revealed at the 2006 North American International Auto Show, while drawing upon elements from the original Challenger. The result: a bold, aggressive muscle machine that blends nostalgia with modern Dodge style.

"Our designers wanted to capture the mind's-eye view of what people today remember about the Dodge Challenger from 35 years ago," said Trevor Creed, Senior Vice President – Design, Chrysler LLC. "Their challenge was to excite today's customer by capturing the emotion of the original Challenger, while offering today's comfort and performance."

On the exterior, the long, raised performance hood with scoops and recessed grille with round dual headlamps are reminiscent of the original Dodge Challenger. The bold A-line, or character line, that runs from stem to stern gives the all-new 2009 Dodge Challenger an instantly recognizable muscle car profile. Retro dual rectangular exhaust outlets complete the look from the rear.

On the interior, the trapezoidal theme of the door-panel cove and gauge cluster, dark headliner and slanted shifter console are inspired by the original Dodge Challenger. The modern interpretation of the Dodge Challenger offers exceptional rear seating for a two-door coupe, achieving best-in-class rear head (37.4 inches) and leg (32.6 inches) room compared to the competition. Coupled with best-in-class cargo space (16.2 cu. ft.) - equal to the Dodge Charger - the all-new 2009 Dodge Challenger offers added comfort and functionality.
