Black Card Holders Just as Likely to own a Hyundai as a Bentley or an Audi

If you are one of American Express’ very special customers, and have US$16.3 million in assets and an annual household income of around US$1.3 million, you may be granted the privilege of one of their black Centurion Cards.

Simon Cowell has one, as does Kanye West, Denzel Washington and Lindsay Lohan. Interestingly, and of more concern to readers of this blog, you might also be the proud owner of a Hyundai.

During the course of a presentation at the South Korean automaker’s Ann Arbor engineering and research centre, Hyundai’s U.S. Chief John Krafcik revealed that some 6% of “Black Card” holders own a Hyundai – a percentage shared with those who own Bentleys and Audis.

Maserati SUV may get Hemi V8, not Ferrari V8 after all

Environmentalists may hate them, but SUVs have proved quite popular –that’s why even carmakers with no former experience are jumping in on the bandwagon, especially in the executive (and most profitable) market. The latest automaker to do so is Maserati which will launch its first ever crossover next year.

At first, Fiat-Chrysler’s CEO, Sergio Marchionne, had revealed that that the Maserati SUV will be based on the new Grand Cherokee’s platform, which in turn is based on the quite capable Mercedes M-Class. However, Marchionne had also hinted that, like other Maserati models, it may get a Ferrari V8 –a very mouth-watering, and logical, proposal since the two companies belong to the same group.

Maserati GranTurismo S with 'MC Sport Line' Tuning Package Debuts in Bologna

Maserati GranTurismo S MC Sport Line Gorgeous isn't she? And while we must admit that we're captivated by the striking brunette model, we're actually referring to the GranTurismo S accessorized with Maserati's new personalization options that made its premiere at the Bologna Motor Show in Italy. Called 'MC Sport Line', the new customization program includes both aerodynamic and mechanical solutions that have been developed using the experience acquired on the track by the Maserati's motor-racing Corse department. The "MC Sport Line" catalogue will be extended in the GranTurismo range and then cover the entire Maserati line-up during the course of 2009.

Maserati GranTurismo S MC Sport Line From early 2009, GranTurismo S customers will be able to enhance the sporty look of their vehicle's exterior and interior as well as to improve the coupe's driving dynamics. Aerodynamics modifications include front and rear carbon-fiber spoilers, side skirts with central panel finished in matt black and mirror housing and door handles also made from carbon fiber. The updated exterior looks are complemented by a set of glossy black 20" wheel rims.

For the interior, Maserati's customization program is all about carbon fiber. Options include carbon fiber door sill bearing the words "MC Sport Line", a pedal block and kickplate machined from a solid aluminium piece, and carbon fiber trim for the door panels, dashboard and central tunnel. The steering wheel rim is also made from carbon fiber, as are the control stalks for the electro-actuated transmission.

Maserati GranTurismo S MC Sport Line Under the "skin", the suspension has been lowered by 10mm and stiffened thanks to new, stiffer springs, shock absorbers and anti-roll bars while Maserati notes that the new suspension set-up is synchronized with a specific Maserati Stability Program software, allowing the driver "more freedom" to play around - if you catch our drift...

The Italian firm said that all the features listed are available either as part of the customization package, following the indications of Maserati designers; or individually, meeting the personal tastes and needs of each customer.

2010 Maserat GranTurismo Spyder with Folding Hardtop Scooped

Don't be fooled by the heavy camouflage; underneath the plastic black wrap hides the forthcoming GranTurismo Spyder that will be given the same-style retractable metal roof as its "sister" model, the Ferrari California. As you can see in our high-res image gallery below, our spy photographers have even managed to scoop a partially undisguised test mule revealing the GranTurismo Spyder's two-piece folding hard-top.

2010 Maserati GranTurismo SpyderEven though the Spyder will be based on the GranTurismo maintaining the same engine options and mechanics it will use a shortened version of the coupe's platform meaning that it will be a strict two-seater. As for the car's looks, people go weak at the knees when they see the coupe variant and we expect nothing less from the Spyder which will be designed once again from the "Grandmaster" Pininfarina.

Like its four-seater tin top sibling, the GranTurismo Spyder will be offered in two flavors: the standard version with a 4.2-liter V8 engine producing 404HP and the sportier "S" model equipped with a 4.7-liter V8 cranking out 440HP. The latter will feature suspension and brake system upgrades along with minor aesthetic modifications like different alloy wheel designs and the refined interior trim.

According to rezza foournito sources, the Maserati GranTurismo Spyder will most likely break cover at the 2009 Geneva MotorShow next March with sales following shortly after.

Maserati Quattroporte Bellagio Fastback To Be Produced in Limited Series

If “Carozzeria Touring Superleggera’s” prime objective was to impress us with the two unique vehicles that they presented at the Concorso d'Eleganza classic car show, then we’re obliged to say that they succeeded. Like the A8CGS Berlinetta Coupe (click here), the Bellagio Fastback Touring is based on a series Maserati and in particular, the Quattroporte Sedan.

The Italian coachbuilder’s design team did a wonderful job in turning the Quattroporte sedan into fastback/station-wagon hybrid. And while the Bellagio retains the same exact exterior dimensions as the sedan, it’s more practical and it also boasts an additional 50 liters of trunk space at 500lt (sedan’s 450lt) which can be boosted to 1,500lt if you drop down the folding rear seats. -Continued

Moreover, the transformation of the Quattroporte into a fastback did not have any serious impact on the overall weight as according to Carozzeria Touring, the Fastback weighs a mere 50 kg / 110 lbs more than the sedan.

Equipped with the same 400 Hp 4.2-liter V8 engine as the sedan, the Bellagio Fastback Touring manages to go from zero to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 5.2 sec and on to a top speed of 275 km/h or 171 mph – same exact figures as the Quattroporte sedan.

So it’s beautiful, practical and fast, but will they build it? Yes, Carozzeria Touring officially announced that the Bellagio Fastback Touring will be produced in a limited edition run. Customers will be able to further personalize the Bellagio with different colours, interiors, materials and extras. According to the Italian coachbuilder “prices will be identical or even lower than equivalent sportscars” – whatever that means…

Maserati A8CGS Berlinetta Wallpapers

While Carrozeria Touring’s A8CGS Berlinetta may not have concentrated as much as attention upon itself as the BMW M1 Homage Concept nevertheless, the compact coupe was definitely one of this year’s 2008 Concorso d'Eleganza main attractions.

Unfortunately, the Italian coachbuilder isn’t doing much of a promotional job with the Maserati based A8CGS Berlinetta Coupe as they haven’t released any details whatsoever on the sportscar. So for the time being, we’ll have to be content with the three new wallpaper-sized (1507x1005) images that we’ve added after the jump along with a more detailed picture gallery that you can check out here. -Continued

Maserati A8 GCS Berlinetta Touring: Retro-Styled Porsche 911 Rival

Once upon a time, coachbuilding was a thriving industry, especially in Italy with marques like Zagato, Vignale, Bertone, Ghia and Carozzeria Touring Superleggera. Today, despite the fact that the coachbuilding business isn’t what it used to be, some companies have managed to keep the flame alive. Touring Superleggera for example is showing off two unique concepts at this weekend’s (April 25-27, 2008), classic car show “Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este”.

Apart from the Maserati Quattroporte Bellagio Estate / Fastback (click here), the Milan based coachbuilder also unveiled the A8 GCS Berlinetta Touring at the classic car show. The lightweight compact coupe is inspired from Pininfarina’s jaw-dropping A6 GCS Berlinetta –hence the name.

Touring Superleggera’s modern interpretation of a classic 60’s Italian sportscar is magnificent –we could have done without the retro wheels though, and we can’t but cross our fingers and hope that this study finds its way into production as an entry-level Maserati that could take on the likes of the Porsche 911 and BMW M3. –More pics after the jump
