UK Insurer Parts the Most Unreliable and Costly Car to Fix

In an article on a BMW-faced Honda Accord we found for sale on Craigslist back in 2008, we wrote that in a perfect world, our ultimate car would be “designed by Italians, engineered by Germans, built by Japanese and marketed by Americans”.

So, what’s the worst car one could imagine? Well, if we played around with the above statements, we’d say one designed by Japanese, engineered by Americans, built by Italians and marketed by Germans.

But UK insurance firm Warranty Direct had something a little bit different in mind. Instead of playing the origin card, the company decided to check out its database of 50,000 live policies on cars aged five years on average to part the UK’s most unreliable vehicle that would break down every other month and cost an average of £2,050 (equal to US$3,270 - €2,330) to fix each year.

SCOOP: Seat Caught Testing Sportier Ibiza ST FR with 150HP

For being Volkswagen’s answer to Alfa Romeo (in theory at least), the Germans are sure taking their time to enhance Seat’s lineup with the most potent engines currently available in the group.

Take the Ibiza Sports Tourer (ST) for instance. In Germany, the small station wagon is offered with three petrol units: a 70HP 1.2-liter three-pot, an 85HP 1.4L and a 105HP 1.2-liter TSI, and three diesels: a 75HP 1.2 TDI, a 90HP 1.6 TDI and a 105HP 1.6 TDI.

But better late than never as Seat is preparing an FR version of the Ibiza ST fitted with the same 1.4-liter TSI turbocharged petrol engine with 150-horsepower found in the hatchback model.

You Can’t Touch This: Boy Racer in Citroen Saxo has Cops Running in Circles

A rather foxy yet clearly irresponsible teenage driver of a Citroen Saxo had British police running in circles –literally- in a chase that took place at the Hams Hall industrial estate near Coleshill, England, last month during a police crackdown on what they call illegal car cruise events.

One of the spectators who had stopped on the side of the road to enjoy the chase filmed the young man’s shenanigans and uploaded the video on Youtube for all to see.

It all started when an unmarked Seat Leon hatchback pursued the driver of the silver Saxo who managed to escape by speeding up, down and even in…reverse on the busy highway.

Volkswagen's Spanish carmaker SEAT has announced that it will further cut production at its Martorell plant near Barcelona for the first half next year due to sluggish demand in Europe. SEAT said that for the period between February 2nd and June 30th 2009 it would halt work at the Martorell plant for between 7 and 29 days at different production lines. SEAT Launches New Collection of Accessories for its Entire Model Range

These days automakers are looking for ways to increase their income any way they can. In the U.K. SEAT is hoping to lure customers into spending a few extra pounds with the introduction of a new series of styling and protection packs for the new Ibiza 5dr and Ibiza SC, Leon, Altea, Altea XL, Freetrack 4 and Alhambra. The latest accessory deals include a Protection Pack for the new Ibiza which adds high quality carpet mats, a protective boot tray along with front and rear mud flaps for £204.50. Ibiza buyers can also opt for the Style Pack (£295.50 including fitting) which adds a color-coded dashboard decorative kit, a set of not so cool chromed door mirror caps, bespoke handbrake and gearknob covers, and a two-metre auxiliary lead for connecting iPods or MP3 players.

The Spanish brand also offers similar Protection and Style packs for other SEATs. Depending on model the packages include a variety of additions such as flexible load liners, roof bars, door mirror covers, door and sill moldings and interior trim additions. As an added bonus, for each pack buyer SEAT provides a free reflective vest and warning triangle which are worth £25.

Seat Ibiza SportCoupe Official Details & Images

Today, VW’s Spanish subsidiary Seat took the wraps off the three-door variant of the new Ibiza that will bear the “SportCoupe” insignia. The production version of the Bocanegra concept is slightly shorter (4.034 vs 4.052 mm) and lower (1.428 vs 1.445 mm) than its 5door sibling while it also features a different C-pillar design. But other than that and despite the promising name, the SportCoupe is practically an Ibiza minus two doors.

In terms of powertrain options, the new Seat Ibiza SportCoupe is equipped with the VW Group’s new seven-speed dual-clutch DSG gearbox on its 105 hp 1.6 version for the first time in this segment. When it goes on sale in Europe this fall, the SportCoupe’s engine range will also include an 80Hp 1.4-liter petrol and 90Hp 1.9-liter diesel units. -Continued

In the near future, Seat will enhance the SportCoupe’s range wuth frugal and ecological ECOMOTIVE variant along with the sporty FR and Cupra versions that will most probably be equipped with the VW Group’s turbocharged 1.4-liter TSI units. The Ibiza SportCoupe will make its public debut at this month's British Motor Show in London.

2009 Seat Ibiza 3door Uncovered?

What appears to be a phone picture from a video wall seems to give us the first view of the new three-door Seat Ibiza that is slated to debut at the British Motor Show in July. Note however, that were not 100 percent sure for its authenticity as there’s a chance it may be a photoshoped version of the 5-door Ibiza. –One more pic after the jump

Seat Ibiza 3door to Debut at July’s London Motor Show

The 3door variant of Seat’s new Ibiza supermini will make its official public debut at the forthcoming British Motor Show in London at the end of July. The “sportier” version of the Ibiza will blend styling elements from the Bocanegra concept and the 5door variant which was officially introduced at the Madrid Auto Show earlier this month.

It has not been confirmed yet whether Seat will also introduce the top-of-the-range FR and Cupra models that will most probably be powered by VW Group’s turbocharged 1.4-liter engines. Sales of the 3door Ibiza are expected to begin in Europe this fall.
