Scoop Quiz : Is this the 2012 Porsche 911 Turbo S?

Show any Porsche 911 to someone old enough to remember when Memorial Day was called Decoration Day, and chances are he or she will probably know the brand and model of the car. But ask someone to tell your which version they’re looking at and you’ll have a pretty hard time getting the right answer unless they’re a true Porschephile.

Take this 911 for example; even our experienced scoop photographers aren’t 100 percent sure about this 2012 Porsche 991 prototype that they bagged testing in Europe.

The chunky rear section with the blistered wheel arches and air-intakes along with the double wing at the back featuring a fixed lower part and a retractable upper section, leave few doubts that this is the new 911 Turbo.

Über Rare Porsche 911 GT1 Straßenversion up for Grabs

It might not be the prettiest Porsche to look at, but the 911 GT1 Straßenversion is without doubt one of the most rare and radical street legal 911s ever to leave the Stuttgart firm’s factory.

You see, the 911 GT1 Straßenversion is the fully road-legal version of Porsche’s 1997 GT1 race car, While based on the 993, it features many modifications including a bespoke carbon-fiber body made to improve aerodynamics and lower the car's weight, and a detuned version of the competition model’s turbocharged flat-six engine delivering some 540 horses.

Porsche Restored 1973 US-Spec 911 T Coupe Awaits Lucky Owner

One of the main attractions of the Porsche Club of America’s (PCA) parade in Savannah, Georgia from July 31 to August 7, will be a fully restored, US-Spec 1973 911 T Coupe. What’s more, one lucky winner of a raffle will get to own it.

The idea behind the “Revive the Passion” project, as the restoration process was named, came up four years ago in Daytona and involved offering a classic, instead of a new car, to the winner of the raffle. The search begun and the suitable car was found near LA. It was then presented at the 2010 edition of the Porsche Parade event.

Porsche Sales Increase Substantially, Cayenne Leads the Pack

Spy Shots: New 2013 Porsche 911 Turbo Shows Off its Aero Bits

The next Porsche 911 will make its world premiere in base trim at the forthcoming Frankfurt motor show this September, but this will only be the first chapter of the 991 saga as the Stuttgart-based firm plans to create an entire range of sub models.

The 911’s lineup will eventually grow to include numerous body styles such as coupe, convertible, Targa and speedster models as well as a variety of standard and limited production versions ranging from the entry level Carreras in two- and four-wheel drive layouts to the GT-spec track racers and the almighty Turbo, which our spies caught testing in Germany.

Porsche to Return to Le Mans in 2014 with Brand New LMP1 Racer

Leaked C&D Issue Spills the Beans on Brand New Porsche 911

The wall of secrecy surrounding the brand-new 2012 Porsche 911 has cracked thanks to a forum member of Teamspeed who downloaded and shared Car & Driver’s upcoming August issue in which the magazine has an exclusive first ride of the car. C&D joined the Porsche team during the new 911’s final tests in South Africa nd here’s what they found out.

The new 911 is code-named 991 and will be launched in September at the Frankfurt Motor Show. Compared to the 997 that it replaces, it is 2.5 inches longer and has a 4.0-inch longer wheelbase so that it can accommodate a hybrid system, presumably from the Panamera.

Yes Please: Porsche 911 with GM LS1 V8 Power [Videos]

By taking a kitbashed GM-sourced LS1 V8 engine and slotting it into an AWD Porsche 996, LS1tech forum member “1dirtyZ” has set out to create something truly unique. Sure, it’s unconventional and perhaps a little sacrilegious...but just look at the Porsche donor car.

It’s a wreck, the victim of a catastrophic engine fire. It has a ruined interior and a body that’s been damaged both by fire and rust. It would have spent the rest its days rotting away in a car wreckers yard if 1dirtyZ had not rescued it.

And even though this confabulation of All-American grunt and German precision engineering is not yet finished (it doesn’t have a rear bumper, for one), it certainly runs and can even be driven around a dirt race track. You can check out our gallery of in-progress images below and a handful of videos showing the V8-powered Porsche 911 running.

Porsche Ready for 24h Nürburgring Race with 911 GT3 R Hybrid

One of the most important racing events of the year in Germany is the 24-hour race of Nürburgring, which will take place this weekend (25/26 June). Porsche will enter the endurance race with eight factory cars, most prominent of which is the updated version of the 911 GT3 R Hybrid that led the event for eight hours last year in its first outing.

For this year, the organizers have changed the rules, restricting the flat six’s output to 448 hp which is directed to the rear wheels. But the hybrid system that features two electric motors driving the front wheels adds another 200 hp.

Custom Made Nike Air Max inspired by Porsche 911 GT3 RS

These custom made Nikes are the work of a German athletic store called 'Purchaze' and they are supposed to be inspired from the Porsche 911 GT3 RS - or at least in what concerns the color combos (silver, black, green and orange). Other than that, the four pairs of Nike Air Max Light GT3 RS sneakers feature the Porsche logo stitched into the shoes' tongue. Well, the only thing that comes to mind when we see these shoes is the word 'kitsch'...

Video: BMW M3 and Porsche 911 Driven Like They Should

2009 Porsche 911 Carrera 4S in Military Camouflaged

Porsche 911 Military CamouflageThe facelifted 2009 Porsche 911 has been around in Europe like what - a few months now? Well that was more than enough time for the owner of this Dutch-license plated 997 Carrera 4S to get so bored of the coupe's color that he decided to take drastic measures. And while most people would simply go for a different finish, maybe even a matte color, this fella went for a full military camouflage look. We would like to believe that he chose to wrap the 997 in tape (a process known as "foiling'') instead of the classic paint job method...

Scoop: 2009 Porsche Cayman Facelift Spied Without Camouflage

2009 Porsche Cayman Facelift Following on from the revamped 911 that was unveiled earlier this year, Porsche is now readying the facelifted variants of the Cayman coupe and Boxster roadster. Both models are due to make their first public appearance at the Los Angeles Auto Show on November 19. However, our spy photographers managed to scoop a virtually undisguised Cayman roaming the streets of Germany providing us with an early view of Porsche's entry-level coupe that will compete against the new Nissan 370Z and BMW Z4.

2009 Porsche Cayman Facelift In true evolutionary-Porsche-style, you'll probably need a microscope to spot the differences between the forthcoming and the outgoing model. That said, the most distinguishable change on the 2009 Cayman concerns the newly-shaped rear tail lights that are combined with a reversed license plate holder (...) and a slightly different lower air vents. Up front, Porsche's lazy designers reprofiled the Cayman's headlamps and added a set of LED daytime running lights. While they were at it, they also restyled the air-vents by removing the body-colored rods.

The facelifted Cayman is also expected to receive some minor interior tweaks that will include a slightly larger touch screen for the sat-nav, new trim options and upgraded materials.

So what about under the skin changes? Well, Porsche has been pretty tightlipped about the matter but our sources state that both the Cayman and the Boxster will feature more powerful yet more fuel-efficient direct-injection engines and quite possibly, the firm's new double-clutch PDK gearbox that made its premiere on the new 911s.

The facelifted Porsche Cayman is expected to go on sale across the world in early 2009.

$70k: What Sportscar Would You buy?

In our latest poll, we’re trying to figure out what would you do if you were lucky enough to have about $70,000 (that’s approx €45,300 with the current exchange rates) lying around your bank account. The reason why we chose the specific sum is no other than the U.S. prices of Nissan’s highly anticipated 473Hp GT-R sportscar: $69,850 (€45,200) for the GT-R and $71,900 (€46,500) for the GT-R Premium model.

For about the same amount, U.S. buyers have the choice to include in their list the 505Hp Corvette Z06 ($72,125 or €46,650) and the entry-lever 325Hp, RWD Porsche 911 Carrera ($73,500 or €47,550). Though significantly cheaper, we also consider the $56,500 (€36,550) BMW M3 with its 414Hp V8 engine as a logic alternative – plus we’re pretty sure that BMW will find a way to get another $10k out of your wallet.

Have your say in the comment section and don’t forget to vote on the poll we added on the sidebar.
