In about a week's time, Mercedes plans to lift the wraps on its next-generation E-Class. However, thanks to an internal leak in December when three exterior photos found their way into the internet and a new leakage that occurred today and concerns the official German market brochure, there won't be much to talk about when Merc unveils the 2010 E-Class, known internally under the codename W212. Aside from the new exterior pictures, the brochure scans reveal the executive sedan's squared-shapes interior as well as the E-Class' full engine line-up and dimensions.
Following in the footsteps of the C-Class and more recently the GLK, the new E-Class exterior gets taut body surfacing and angular design elements such as the four diamond shape headlamps up front. Same goes for the interior, though in a less tacky way than the GLK's cabin which looks like it was built from bricks. Apparently, Merc's designers are trying -we not saying that that they succeeded- to evoke the robustness of the mid 1980s E-Class.
Not surprisingly, Mercedes-Benz's BMW 5-Series and Audi A6 rival has slightly grown in dimensions compared to the outgoing E-Class, measuring 4.868 mm in length (+12 mm), 1.854 mm in width (+32 mm) and 1.470 mm in height (-13 mm) with a wheelbase of 2.874 mm (+20 mm).
Powering the new E-Class is an updated range of diesel and gasoline engines. Diesel lovers will be able to choose from five different units: a new 2.1-liter 4-cylinder engine with 136, 170 and 204 HP and a 3.0-liter V6 with 231HP (BlueEFFICIENCY) and 211HP (BLUETEC).
Those who favor petrol can select between five different engine options: a 1.8-liter direct injection 4-cylinder with 184 and 204HP; a 3.5-liter V6 (for the 4MATIC model) delivering 272HP; a 3.5-liter direct injection V6 producing 292HP and at the top of the range, a 388HP 5.5-liter V8 that can be combined with RWD or AWD layout.
During the year, Mercedes plans to enrich its E-Class range with the introduction of the Estate (station-wagon) and Coupe models while in 2010 - 2011, the German automaker will add a hybrid version(s) and an AMG model aimed squarely at the BMW M5 featuring a 6.2-liter V8 engine that should be good for around 550-horsepower.

The forthcoming 2010 Mercedes-Benz E-Class Coupe has been spotted at Amsterdam's Schiphol airport in the Netherlands by readers of our Dutch friends over at Autogespot. The barely camouflaged model reveals the new E-Class Coupe's heavily shouldered rear wheel arches as well as the more dramatic styling of the three-part side windows and the sleeker roofline. Though not clearly visible in these photos, the CLK's successor also adopts the Paris Show ConceptFascination's diamond-shaped, quad-headlamp arrangement and the angular, businesslike nose featuring Merc's three-pointed star in the middle.
Overall, the E-Class Coupe's styling appears more seductive than the 2010 E-Class sedan, pictures of which were leaked into the internet a few weeks ago -click here. Merc's rival to the BMW 3-Series and Audi A5 coupes will most likely be offered with the same powertrain options as the saloon version, ranging from a ranging from an entry-level, 1.8-liter 4-cylinder turbocharged petrol right up to a 6.2-litre V8 engine in the range-topping AMG version. Mercedes will also offer an array of diesel engine options on the new E-Class coupe.
It is expected that the new E-Class Coupe will make its official debut along with its sedan sibling at the upcoming Geneva Motor Show in March, 2009, with sales following in the second half of the year and in some markets, in early 2010.

German luxury carmaker Mercedes-Benz is celebrating the delivery of 1.5 million units of the current E-Class to customers since the executive model's market launch six years ago in 2002. Overall, Merc has produced 1,270,000 sedans and 230,000 station-wagons from the current E-Class series. The most important markets for the E-Class are Germany and the U.S., each of which accounts for around 25 percent of the model's total sales. In terms of engine popularity, the E 220 CDI diesel and E350 are the best selling models as each attracts ten percent of all E-Class customers. Not surprisingly, around 40 percent of all customers select a diesel-powered version of the mid-size German luxury car."The current E-Class and its predecessor models have been the 'heart' of Mercedes-Benz for more than 60 years now," says Dr. Klaus Maier, Executive Vice President Sales and Marketing Mercedes-Benz Cars. "With its typical brand attributes that include safety, comfort, innovation, economy, and quality, the E-Class has delighted around 12 million customers worldwide across eight model generations."

Official images of the forthcoming 2010 Mercedes-Benz E-Class have been leaked onto the internet ahead of the luxury sedan's planned debut in 2009. Known internally by its W212 chassis moniker, the new mid-size executive sedan from Mercedes-Benz adopts a more angular styling which tries to evoke the robustness of the mid-1980s - early-1990s E-Class range. Judging by these photos, we reckon that Merc's designers did it in a much less classy way, but we'll have to wait to see the sedan in real life for a safer verdict.
There are no official details concern the car, but according to our sources, the new E-Class will boast an updated engine line-up with several new and revised gasoline and Bluetec diesel powerplants including a base 1.8-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder petrol unit and Merc's new 204 HP 2.2-liter turbo diesel. Furthermore, the German firm will enhance its BMW 5-Series rival with a range-topping AMG variant equipped with a slightly tweaked version of the current model's 6.2-liter V8 engine producing close to 550HP as well as diesel-hybrid and petrol-hybrid versions.
Later on in the year, Mercedes-Benz will present a more practical Estate version along with a Coupe model that will replace today's CLK. The latter will be heavily inspired from the Paris Motor Show ConceptFascination study.

These are the latest spy photos of Mercedes-Benz's next-generation E-Class sedan that was spotted testing near Stuttgart. While this isn't the first time that we've seen lightly camouflaged prototypes of Merc's mid-size sedan, our photographers managed to scoop a few pictures of the vehicle's interior that reveal new aspects of its dashboard that follows the edgier design language of the C-Class.
One of the most notable differences between the current model and the new E-Class concerns the S-Class-inspired automatic gearshift. As opposed to the console-located shifter of the current E-Class, in the model the driver selects Park, Drive and Reverse through a stalk on the right side of the steering column.
On the outside the 2010 E-Class is shedding more and more of its disguise making the differences to the outgoing model clearly visible. The saloon's design that was previewed at the Paris motorshow through the ConceptFascination adopts tauter body surfacing and sharper creases for a more imposing and dynamic look. The most notable feature of the 2010 E-Class' design will be without doubt the diamond shaped quad headlights.
Peel of the sheetmetal and you'll find a gazillion safety and comfort-orientated technologies like the radar-assisted cruise control and the automatic lane guidance system. You will also discover a revamped petrol and diesel engine line-up that will use cutting-edge technology to cut fuel consumption and emissions. Among the new powerplants to be introduced in the next-generation E-Class will be a 4-cylinder turbo diesel featuring BlueTEC and AdBlue technology to develop an output of 204HP from a displacement of 2.2-liters.
Mercedes-Benz will also reveal the first hybrid variants of the E-Class. The E300 Blutec Hybrid will link a V6 diesel engine to an electric motor mixing performance with ultra-low consumption and emission figures while the E400 Hybrid will adopt the 299HP 3.5-liter V6 petrol-hybrid system used in the new S400 Hybrid (click here for details).
There will also be a new E63 AMG that will use a slightly tweaked version of the current generation model's 6.2-liter V8 engine producing close to 550HP.
The 2010 Mercedes-Benz E-Class will make its first official appearance in sedan form at next year's Geneva Motor Show in March with the Estate variant following towards the end of the year.
The engineers of tuning firm BRABUS have developed a new special auxiliary module for the electronic engine management system for the new Mercedes E 300 BLUETEC called the “BRABUS PowerXtra D6 BLUE”. While the kit boosts power output by 47 HP at the same time exhaust emissions stay below the permissible limits of EURO V by up to 65 percent. After the conversion operation, which can be performed at any authorized Mercedes-Benz dealer, the 3.0-liter turbodiesel produces 258 HP at 3,700 rpm and a max torque figure of 610 Nm (450 lb-ft), up from standard 540 Nm (398 lb-ft). The BRABUS-tuned E 300 BLUETEC sprints from zero to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 6.8 sec (vs 7.2 sec of the standard model) and reaches an electronically limited top speed of 250 km/h (155 mph). -Continued
The BRABUS power kit is available for €1,790 or $2,650 and it’s backed by the BRABUS Tuning Warranty of three years, up to 100,000 km or 62,000 miles.
