Ford Begins Production of New Focus in Russia


    Ford's Vsevolozhsk Plant near St. Petersburg in Russia has begun assembly of the firm’s new generation Focus. The five-door hatchback is the first member of the Focus family to roll off the assembly line in Russia with the four-door and station wagon variants to enter production in September and January, respectively. Ford: More than 50,000 Cars with 1.6-liter EcoBoost Engine Sold in Europe


    Since its introduction in late 2010, Ford’s new 1.6-liter EcoBoost engine has proven to be a hit with European consumers having sold more than 50,000 units. The engine, which is manufactured in Ford’s UK Bridgend plant, is available in six different models (Focus, Mondeo, C-MAX, Grand C-MAX, S-MAX and Galaxy). New Ford Focus RS Promo Video

    While we'd like nothing more than to see the new 2009 Focus RS tackling the corners of the famous Nurburgring race track in Germany, for the time being we'll have to be content with static footage of Ford's fastest ever European production model. In this promotional video, Ford gives us an exterior tour of the 305HP three-door hatchback that will go on sale across Europe in March 2009.

Ford Prices the New Focus RS from £24,995 in the UK

    2009 Ford Focus RS Following the presentation of the production 2009 Focus RS, Ford released pricing for its fastest-ever European production car. When it goes on sale in the UK in March, the Focus RS will be priced from £24,995 which comes to about $38,300 but for a various reasons that include the higher taxation system in the UK, the MSRP cannot be used for comparisons in the U.S. In the UK, the standard price of the flagship Focus RS compares with £20,408 for the 225HP Focus ST3, the existing top-of-the-range Focus model.

    Under the bonnet of the Ford Focus RS is a turbocharged 2.5-litre, five-cylinder Duratec petrol engine, with a confirmed 305PS and 440Nm peak torque. Front-wheel-driven through a six-speed transmission, the Focus RS accelerates from 0-62mph (100km/h) in under 5.9 seconds and has a targeted top speed of 263 km/h or 164mph.

    2009 Ford Focus RS Standard features a manual air-conditioning system, a Sony radio with a six-disc CD player and a Thatcham Category 1 alarm. Ford also offers a £750 Luxury Pack that includes the options of Dual-Zone Electronic Automatic Temperature Control (DEATC) air-conditioning; automatic headlights; rain-sensor wipers; auto-dim rear-view mirror; rear parking-distance sensors; tyre deflation-detection; and a Ford Key-Free system. The £1,500 version of the Luxury Pack adds in a Touchscreen DVD Navigation System, with seven-inch touch-screen.

    Other optional extras include partially leather-trimmed seats at £500 and, for £200, Bluetooth hands-free phone connectivity and USB port. Specifying a metallic version of the Performance Blue paintwork costs £395, while a Tri-Coat Metallic Ultimate Green finish carries a £695 price tag.

Video: Marcus Gronholm Drives the New 305HP Ford Focus RS

    Spectators at the final stage of day two at last weekend's Wales Rally GB had the chance to see Ford's highly anticipated Focus RS in motion as former double World Rally Champion and ex-Ford WRC driver Marcus Gronholm took the 305HP hatchback for as spin at Cardiff's Millennium Stadium. Before showing off the new Focus RS, Ford also gave spectators a blast from the past with a parade of previous generation RS models including the first Escort and the Sierra Cosworth. The new flagship Focus RS which goes on sale in Europe early in Spring 2009, is powered by a turbocharged 2.5-litre five-cylinder engine producing 305HP and 440Nm peak torque. Ford Focus RS – New Mega Gallery with 42 Photos

    The British arm of FoMoCo has given us an early Christmas present by releasing a barrage of photos of the production-ready Focus RS that was unveiled to the public for the first time in prototype form at the London Auto Show earlier this year. Final specifications have yet to be revealed, but according to the firm's latest tests, the Focus RS that’s equipped with a limited-slip diff, a special suspension and a 305HP 2.5-litre five-cylinder turbocharged engine, accelerates from standstill to 100km/h in 5.9 sec and achieves a maximum speed of 263 km/h (164 mph).
