Double Standards, or how (Not) to Sell Cars to Women

In the 1950s, products for women were no doubt designed and marketed by men. Take for example the 1955 Dodge Le Femme, a truly absurd car (by today’s standards) that came with a matching purse, raincoat and umbrella as well as a bright pint interior with rose-patterned trim.

It’s the equivalent of offering a car today with a…tampon dispenser in the glovebox.

Across the pond there was the Daimler 104 Ladies’ Model with electric windows, a simplified gear change (no, I did not make that up), an umbrella and a vanity case under the dashboard.

Toyota Europe Officially Presents 2012 Yaris, Sales Start this Summer

All-new European Market 2012 Toyota Yaris Breaks Cover

Toyota has unveiled the European version of the new Yaris, its all-new supermini which will replace the model of the same name in the summer of 2011. The new Yaris is, quite predictably, based on the Yaris HSD Hybrid prototype that we saw last March in Geneva.

It adopts Toyota’s new design language, with more angular headlights and more prominent creases in the body, although the general shape does not stray too much from the previous generation model.

2009 Toyota Yaris Facelift with New 1.3-Liter Engine Revealed in Bologna

The facelifted Toyota Yaris made its debut today at the Bologna motor show ahead of its European market launch in early 2009. On the outside, the revised Yaris features a few minor styling updates such as the new front and rear bumpers that gain protective plastic moldings, revised headlights and tail lamps and, a narrower front grille. Toyota has also refreshed the cabin with new upholstery and trim options. The most significant change though is hidden under the hood as the 2009 Yaris gains a new 1.33-liter Dual VVT-i 4-cylinder gasoline engine that was first introduced on the Auris.

2009 Toyota Yaris FaceliftThe new petrol engine promises to delivers lower emissions, better fuel economy and improved power and torque figures compared to the 1.4-liter unit it replaces. The 1.33-liter Dual VVT-i delivers an output of 101HP and 132 Nm of torque and is matted to a new 6-speed manual gearbox or optionally, to a semi-automatic MMT transmission. Toyota claims that the manual version achieves an average fuel consumption of 5.1 lt per 100 km which translates to 46.1 mpg U.S.

Furthermore, the facelifted Yaris will be available for the first time with Toyota's new Stop&Start technology. According to the Japanese automaker, in a world-first design, the system has a permanently engaged starter gear mechanism meaning that the starter motor is in direct contact with the ring gear on the engine. As a result, the engine starts and stops faster and more quieter.

In-Car Smoking can Be Hazardous...

Sticky note for drivers that smoke in their automobiles: if you insist on not using the ashtray (whenever available) at least be sure that when you throw a cigarette out the window that it actually does go out through the window and not right back into the rear seat because your car might end up like this "scorching hot" Yaris...

SEMA: Toyota's Yaris Tailback CNG Concept

Toyota Yaris Tailback Concept SEMA 2008 No car seems to have escaped from the makeover-claws of the loony-tuning doctors at this year's SEMA show - not even the humble Toyota Yaris hatchback. The "Kermit-esque" Yaris Tailback concept has received a complete exterior overhaul featuring a wide bodykit as well as automated rear suicide doors and rear split tailgate. The custom body is accompanied by a set of DPE wheels that feature eleven inch wide rear wheels with a five and a half inch lip and are covered in Nitto rubber, Rotora big brake kit, and Tanabe lowering springs.

Toyota Yaris Tailback Concept SEMA 2008 Pop up the hood and you'll discover that the greenish Yaris 5 Door Tailback concept features a compressed natural gas system (CNG) that offers the driver the ability to switch from the vehicle's combustion engine to CNG with the push of a button. The CNG tank and custom casing is housed in the rear of the vehicle and is unveiled as the rear tailgate is powered open.

The vehicle's interior boosts a Pioneer audio/visual system with two monitors that have the ability to display movies and videos which can be played through the integrated iPOD. Additionally, custom upholstery adorns the interior with gray suede and black leather front and rear seats with yellow stitching.
