Saab Says it Can’t Pay Workers, Company’s Survival in Doubt

New clouds are forming over Saab as the automaker’s parent company, Swedish Automobile N.V., formerly known as Spyker Cars N.V., said on Thursday it will be unable to pay its 3,800 employees their wages because it has not yet obtained the necessary short-term funding.

Swedish Automobile said it and Saab “are in discussions with various parties” to secure short-term funding, including through a sale and lease-back of Saab’s real estate assets.

Saab Production on Hold for at least Two More Weeks

Ailing Swedish car manufacturer Saab will not be producing new vehicles for at least two more weeks until it resolves the problems with its suppliers, the company said on Monday.

"There will be no normal production during weeks 25 and 26 (June 20th-July 3rd)," Saab spokeswoman Gunilla Gustavs told Reuters. "We are still negotiating with all suppliers and we need to get everyone on board at the same time. The weeks of 27-29 (July 4th-24th) are planned to be normal working weeks".

Saab UK Announces 2012 9-5 Sedan and SportWagon Amidst Production Halt

If there was ever an award for bad timing, Saab’s UK division would probably be a front-runner this month. You see, there is something fundamentally wrong with announcing pricing and details on a new product when its production has been suspended (even if, as Saab claims, proves to be temporary, in which case, why not wait?).

In any case and with Saab’s future depending on deals that still need to be approved from Swedish, European and Chinese officials, the company gave out UK pricing information on the 2012 model year 9-5 range, which benefits from the introduction of the SportWagon and a series of enhancements, including additional features and further reduced CO2 emissions for all engines.

New Saab 9-5 Griffin 260HP Heads to Detroit Auto Show

2010 Saab 9-5 Griffin Edition Unlike wine, cars don't get better as they age, and at 11 years old, the current Saab 9-5 is long overdue for replacement. Still, Saab tries to make the best of it by constantly introducing new editions of its mid-size executive model in a wary attempt to draw buyers into its showrooms. At the Detroit auto show next month, the Swedes will perform the debut of the 9-5 Griffin Edition powered by the firm's 2.3-liter, 260HP four-cylinder engine that can be matched to five-speed manual or automatic transmissions without extra charge.

Available in both sedan and station-wagon forms, the 9-5 Griffin Edition is distinguished on the outside by the matte chrome front grill and frames around the Xenon headlamps. The Sedan has a rear spoiler on the trunk lid, while the SportCombi can be recognized by its roof spoiler and roof rails in matte chrome finish. A set of five-spoke, 17-inch alloy wheels and Griffin badges on the front fenders complete the look.

On the inside, the 9-5 Griffin comes equipped with high-gloss interior trim, floor mats with grey piping, as well as the use of accent color stitching on the steering wheel, shift lever and handbrake. Additional standard equipment includes a rear parking assist system, plus heated outside mirrors that are also foldable and auto-dimming.

Expected to start arriving in Saab dealer showrooms in January 2009, the Swedes have priced the 9-5 Griffin from $42,775 for the Sedan and $ 44,045 for the SportCombi. We're no marketing gurus, but 40+ grand for a outdated car that was designed in the mid-to-late 90s doesn't exactly sound like a deal.

57,389 Saab 9-5 Models Recalled

Faulty A-pillar trims are the reason behind a relatively large recall of MY 2002-2009 Saab 9-5 models. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, (NHTSA), during compliance testing, one of the upper interior occupant protection test points exceeded the standard's requirements. In other words, occupants could hurt their heads in the event of an accident. Saab dealers will install a new A-pillar trim with improved energy-absorbing capability free of charge.Source URL: http://sparesomeribs.blogspot.com/search/label/Saab%209-5
