Last week Mercedes revealed the SLR Stirling Moss, a final-run, limited-edition speedster version of the SLR supercar named in tribute to British race ace Stirling Moss. The most exclusive variant of the SLR is powered by a supercharged V8 engine with 650HP for a zero to 100 km/h (62 mph) sprint in less than 3.5 seconds and a top speed of 350 km/h (217 mph). Mercedes-Benz SLR Stirling Moss: New Photo Gallery and Officially Official Details

The Mercedes-Benz SLR Stirling Moss is the crown glory of the soon-to-be discontinued, SLR McLaren super sports car. Named after the British motor racing legend and Mille Miglia record-holder Stirling Moss, who drove the legendary SLR racing cars during the 1950s, the speedster version of the SLR comes with neither a roof nor a windscreen. Not that anyone will leave the car exposed to the elements of nature, but the vehicle can be closed by two tonneau covers which are carried in the boot.

Power is provided by the same supercharged V8 engine as the standard SLR with an output of 650HP. Accelerating from zero to 100 km/h (62 mph) in less than 3.5 seconds and with a top speed of 350 km/h (217 mph), the SLR Stirling Moss is the fastest series-production car drop-top in the world.

According to Mercedes-Benz, the common denominator uniting the Stirling Moss with the other members of the SLR family is the aerodynamic concept with a closed underbody and a diffuser in the rear bumper for maximum possible downforce at the rear axle.

The German firm's engineers have also retained the SLR's airbrake which is raised during powerful braking at speeds above 120 km/h (75 mph), so as to stabilize the vehicle even more in such situations.

The SLR Stirling Moss' exterior styling is reminiscent of the SLR racing cars from the 1950s featuring a pronounced arrow-shaped form and is characterized by an elongated bonnet and a compact rear-end. The sportscar is also equipped with folding swing-wing doors which open forwards. Inside, Merc's designers tried to leave only the bare essentials using materials such as carbon fibre, aluminum and leather.

Production of the exclusive SLR Stirling Moss will be limited to 75 units with pricing set at €750,000 -around $1,070,000. However, only customers who have previously bought an SLR will be able to order the Stirling Moss. Following the cease of production of the SLR models in May 2009, Mercedes will begin manufacturing the SLR Stirling Moss in June 2009.

Mercedes SLR Stirling Moss: First Photos of Limited Production Supercar

The first official photos of the limited production Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren Strirling Moss that will make its world premiere at the 2009 North American Internation Auto Show in Detroit this January have been leaked into the internet. The oddly styled (and that's an understatement) two-seater roadster which blends visual elements from the firm's racing past with Merc's current portfolio will be the last vehicle to be built under the partnership with McLaren as the two firms will each go their way in 2009.

The roofless and windowless sportscar is said to be equipped with the SLR McLaren's 650HP supercharged 5.5-liter V8 engine that's matted to a five-speed automatic transmission. All in all, Mercedes will produce a total of just 75 examples of the SLR McLaren Stirling Moss each priced at €750,000 which is approximately $1,070,000. We'll have more details on Merc's latest supercar car when the German firm officially presents the SLR McLaren Stirling Moss. Until then skip the jump to enjoy the photo gallery.

Mercedes-Benz SLC Gullwing's Interior Scooped

A set of grainy images have surfaced on the web giving us our first glimpse of the forthcoming Mercedes-Benz SLC Gullwing's dashboard. The low quality pictures that appear to be scanned, show that the prototype is equipped with a flat bottom AMG steering wheel as well as with retro-style air vents that bring to mind the ones found in the Mercedes-Benz models of the 1970s. Other than that, we can see the that the SLC also features the usual Mercedes-Benz air-condition controls and a rotary knob for the COMMAND system.

The new SLC supercar is scheduled to be revealed at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September 2009 with sales planned to start during the first half of 2010. Even though all of the prototypes that have been caught on camera are heavily camouflaged, Merc insiders have said that the SLC's exterior design will revoke memories of the iconic 300 SL.

Unlike the SLR McLaren, the SLC will be developed in-house by the German automaker's AMG division. Power is expected to come from an AMG, front-mid mounted 6.2-liter V8 engine producing around 580 HP.

Geneva Preview: BRABUS SLR McLaren Roadster & Smart Ultimate 112

For this year’s Geneva International Motor Show, Mercedes-Benz Group tuning specialist Brabus, is proposing an oddly pair of vehicles, the SLR McLaren Roadster and the Ultimate 112, both with absolutely identical special snow-white paint and equipment. BRABUS offers both exclusive speedsters for a package price of €699,000 or about $1,061,000.

The one we all would like to own is of course the SLR McLaren Roadster. Apart from the white carbon-fiber skin, the Brabus tuned version is equipped with a bodykit that includes a carbon-fiber front spoiler, a rear apron with a carbon-fiber diffuser and new lightweight 20-inch alloy wheels wrapped around Pirelli or YOKOMAMA tires (255/30 ZR 20 up front and 305/25 ZR 20 at the rear). Inside, the drop-top SLR’s cabin is dressed in a combination of lipstick-red leather and black Alcantara while it also features a new sport-steering wheel with a flattened

Finally, the SLR also gets a tuning kit for its 5.5-liter supercharged V8 engine that consists of special camshafts and a fuel-cooling system. Power output increases by 24 Hp to 650 Hp. BRABUS also offers a special clutch-type limited-slip differential with a locking rate of 40 percent for the SLR. The tuned SLR Roadster goes from rest to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 3.6 sec and reaches a top speed of 337 km/h (211 mph).

The ultimate accessory for the snow-white SLR McLaren Roadster is without doubt, the Smart ForTwo Cabrio based, ULTIMATE 112. In addition to its special paint identical to the SLR the ultimate city sports car features a muscular body kit with front spoiler, rocker panels, wider fender flares front and back and new 18-inch alloys combined with 205/35 tires up front and 235/30 at the back. -Continued after the jump

Brabus has also tuned the three-cylinder turbo engine that produces a maximum power output of 112 hp at 5,600 rpm. That’s good enough for a zero to 100 km/h (62 mph) time of 9.5 sec. Top speed is electronically limited to 170 km/h or 106 mph.

Like its big brother, the ULTIMATE 112’s interior is upholstered in a combination of soft and lipstick-red BRABUS Mastik leather and black Alcantara. Embossed BRABUS emblems are part of the exclusive concept as are accents such as speedometer, tach and clock, instrument bezels, dashboard trim, turn signal lever and door handles, all color-coordinated with the exterior color. Stainless-steel foot pedals with rubber pads and an aluminum shifter and emergency brake lever complete the package.
