Ford to Auction KNIGHT RIDER Shelby Mustangs at Barrett-Jackson

At the 6th Annual Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Event on March 29, 2008, in West Palm Beach, Ford will auction two of the actual KITT Shelby Mustangs used in NBC's "Knight Rider" pilot TV movie that aired in February. All proceeds from the auction will benefit “Salute to Education”, a corporate sponsored scholarship program funded by the San Diego County Ford dealers and Ford Motor Company.

Although it goes without saying that the new KITT’s appeal comes nowhere close to the original Pontiac based model from the 1980’s TV series, the two cars are unique. According to Ford, the GT500KR based "Super KITT" and "Attack Mode KITT" will be sold as a pair. Pic edited by rezza foournito – Details on both vehicles after the jump

"Super KITT" was built using a black Mustang GT with 4.6 Liter V8 that was upfitted with a Ford Racing Whipple Super-charger to make 500 horsepower. Additional performance elements include 6-piston Brembo Brakes, FRC500 Suspension Pak, High Flow Ford Racing X-Pipe and Ford Racing mufflers with stainless tips. The exterior sports a GT500KR fiberglass hood with a KITT heartbeat light, GT500 front and rear bumper covers, matte black LeMans stripes, matte finish rocker panels, GT500KR rear spoilers and 20" forged aluminum wheels.

"Attack Mode KITT" began as a black Mustang GT with 4.6 Liter V8, auto transmission, custom front valance/grille based on the GT500KR, carbon graphite chin spoiler, custom rear bumper cover, custom side faux air scoops, custom side skirt/rocker panel, two-tiered rear spoiler, custom rear window insert, custom turn signal trim, custom headlight trim brow and 20" forged black aluminum wheels. Performance features include Brembo Brakes, a FRC Suspension Pak and Ford Racing mufflers with stainless tips.

2008 Knight Rider Movie: Second Teaser Spot Released

NBC let out the second teaser spot (see the first one here) for the two-hour Knight Rider movie that will air in February. The 30 second spot highlights some of the Shelby GT500 KR based K.I.T.T’s (pics here) features like the 550 HP V8 engine, the race tuned suspension and the xenon headlamps with infrared night vision. Looks more like a commercial for the new “GLX something” than a teaser for Night Rider… Check out the video for yourselves after the jump and tell us what you think about it. -Continued

Video: 2008 Knight Rider Official Teaser Trailer

NBC aired the first official teaser trailer of the new Knight Rider TV movie during the Sunday Night Football show. Even though we missed out on it, the guys at Knight Rider Online managed to capture the 15 seconds long trailer and upload the short video on Youtube. Nothing special since we’ve already seen the new Shelby Mustang GT500 KR based KITT (SEE HERE) but we do get the chance to hear for the first time the synthesized voice of Will Arnett saying, "Hello Mike."

NBC officially unveiled the star of the upcoming two-hour TV movie Knight Rider. And no, we’re not talking about Mike Tracer, the main character played by Justin Bruening, but about the all-new KITT – a 2008 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500KR.

To be precise, three cars will be employed in the series: the KITT Hero, a Ford Mustang Shelby GT500KR; the KITT Attack, a super high-speed version of the GT500KR Hero car that transforms into Attack mode with the help of air-ride technology and specialized body parts and a KITT Remote, a driverless version of the Hero vehicle. -High-res image gallery & press release after the jump

NBC Also Forms Partnership with Ford Motor Company That Provides for Unique Content Opportunity

BURBANK - December 12, 2007 - As "Knight Rider" -- NBC's iconic 1980s television classic that became a runaway success, comes roaring back to life on the network with an updated sequel that will air as a two-hour movie event on Sunday, February 17 (9-11 p.m. ET) -- NBC unveiled the new customized KITT Ford Mustang to be featured in the series in a press event held at NBC's Burbank Studios today.

The movie stars Justin Bruening ("Cold Case," "All My Children"), Deanna Russo ("NCIS," "The Young and the Restless"), Sydney Tamiia Poitier ("Veronica Mars," "Grindhouse") and Bruce Davison ("Breach," "Close to Home"). In addition, David Hasselhoff (NBC's "America's Got Talent") -- who starred in the popular lead role as Michael Knight for four seasons during the original series -- returns as the same character in a special guest-star appearance. Will Arnett (NBC's "30 Rock," "Blades of Glory") will provide the voice of KITT.

Dave Bartis ("Heist," "The O.C.") and Doug Liman ("Mr. and Mrs. Smith," "The Bourne Identity") serve as executive producers. NBC also has an arrangement with Ford Motor Company that provides for a unique content opportunity that makes the Ford Mustang one of the stars of the movie.

The three cars to be employed in the series include the KITT Hero -- a Ford Mustang Shelby GT500KR that is playing the part of the everyday Hero car with 540 horsepower; the KITT Attack -- a super high-speed version of the Ford Mustang Shelby GT500KR Hero car that transforms into Attack mode with the help of air-ride technology and specialized body parts -- and a KITT Remote, which is a driverless Ford Mustang Shelby GT500KR version of the Hero vehicle.

As the original story resumes, the new KITT (Knight Industries Three Thousand) is absolutely the coolest car ever created: its supercomputer capable of hacking almost any system; its weapons systems efficient; and its body -- thanks to its creator's work and nanotechnology -- is capable of actually shifting shape and color. Plus, its artificial intelligence makes it the ideal crime-fighting partner: logical, precise and possessing infinite knowledge. It is the ultimate car -- and someone will be willing to do anything to obtain it.

Sarah Graiman is a 24-year old Ph.D candidate at Stanford University, following in her genius father Charles' (Davison) footsteps. But when men attempt to abduct her, Sarah receives a mysterious call from KITT warning her that he's a creation of Charles, who also invented the first KITT 25 years ago -- and that her father is in serious danger.

Sarah and KITT track down her best friend from childhood, Mike Tracer (Bruening), a 23-year-old ex-Army Ranger, whom Sarah hasn't seen since he left home at 18. Having served in Iraq, Mike is now jaded and lost and initially resistant. Eventually he agrees to help Sarah and the two set out to discover who's behind the attempt to procure KITT and find Charles. Along the way, Carrie Rivai (Poitier) plays the agile yet tough FBI agent who has a long-standing friendship with Charles and Sarah. Due to those ties, she is brought into the mix to help in the search.

David Andron is supervising producer and writer. Steve Shill ("Dexter," "The Tudors"), also a co-executive producer, directs the two-hour movie from Universal Media Studios and Dutch Oven Productions.

Shelby GT500 KR To Star In New Knight Rider

Out goes GM’s F-Body Pontiac in comes Ford’s retro-penned Mustang. Our Jalopnik pals have the inside word that the car you’re seeing in this picture, a Shelby GT500 KR (the red light is photoshoped though) is the actual vehicle that will play the role of K.I.T.T. in NBC’s upcoming Knight Rider TV series. The show is expected to air on TV next fall. PS: What do you think about NBC’s decision to pick the GT500KR for K.I.T.T.’s role?

Jason’s Corvette Z06 Based KITT Proposal

Our second proposal on the car that could take the place of the original Pontiac Trans-Am in NBC’s new Knight Rider TV Series comes from our reader Jason McCutcheon. While Vincent chose the Saab Aero-X Concept as his muse in our previous post (see here), Jason picked out GM’s best offering, the Corvette Z06. And you’ll probably agree with us that the blacked out Corvette Z06 looks “murderously” bad. If any you have time to “chop” up a potential “KITT” –the weirder the car, the better, we’ll be more than glad to host your work. You can also check our chops by clicking here. -More images of the Vette after the jump

    Thanks for the chop Jason!

Vincent’s Saab Aero-X Knight Rider

On Sunday we asked you, what car would be the ideal choice for KITT’s role in the new “Knight Rider” TV Series that’s expected to air next fall (click here). Today to our surprise, we received a few propositions from our readers who took the time to fiddle around with photoshop visualizing their ideas. First up is Vincent Nacon’s Saab Aero-X K.I.T.T. Interestingly enough, Vincent replaced the original single red line bars on the front with KITT’s voice-box –why didn’t we think of that?

    Thanks for the chop Vincent!

Poll: Which Car Should Play In The New Knight Rider TV Series?

Since we learned last night that NBC has decided to revive Knight Rider (click here) with a new TV series next fall, we've been raking our brain to try and find the best candidate to surrogate Knight’s 1980’s Pontiac Firebird Trans-Am. Heck, we even stayed up last night playing around with photoshop just to see what KITT would look like if he were a Chevy Camaro –mmm, maybe, a Cadillac Cien –we liked this one, an Audi R8 –that sucked, even an Impreza WRX STi –that’ll piss off many Texans.

Which one of today’s production cars/concepts do you think would be the ideal choice for KITT’s role? And oh, if you know your way around with Photoshop, don’t hesitate to e-mail us a pic! Have your say in the comments below. -Chops after the jump

Knight Rider Coming Back To TV In 2008

If you’re in your late 20’s – early 30’s like yours truly, you’ve probably spent countless hours as a kid in front of the TV watching Michael Knight (played by David Hasselhoff) and his blacked out K.I.T.T. 2000. Yes, we shamelessly admit that there was a time and a place were we dreamed of driving Knight’s talking Trans-Am –with a handful of chicks in it! But we better stop here before we make a complete “arse” of ourselves… Anyway, what we really wanted to tell you is that NBC is bringing back the 1980s action-drama series. According to Variety, the new "Knight Rider" could air as early as next fall. There’s no word on which car will substitute the Pontiac Trans-Am, but producers are exploring the idea of adding "evil" cars to offset K.I.T.T.
