Infiniti Teases 2013 JX Crossover’s Kinky C-Pillar

Our weekly dose of 2013 Infiniti JX teaser images continues with the release of the fourth picture of the Japanese automaker’s upcoming premium crossover in advance of its debut first in concept form at the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance on August 18 and then in final production trim at the Los Angeles Auto Show in November.

Having previously graced us with a single sketch of the 2013 JX’s profile as well as photos showing the crossover’s front and rear end, we now get a glimpse of the vehicle’s distinctive crescent-shaped C-pillar, which was first seen on the Infiniti Essence concept and is gradually making its way onto the firm’s production models, as well as the large (double?) sunroof.

Nissan Announces New Midterm Business Plan, will Introduce a New Vehicle Every Six Weeks for Six Years

Japanese carmaker Nissan Motor Co. revealed on Monday its new midterm business plan dubbed “Power 88”, with which it aims to boost both its global market share and profit margin to 8 percent within six years – hence the “88” reference in the name. Last year, Nissan, which is 44.3 percent owned by French partner Renault, had a 5.8 percent global market share.

The new plan calls for the introduction of 52 new cars for fiscal years 2011 to 2016, or about one new vehicle every six weeks.

Breaking News: Nissan and Infiniti Pull Out of 2009 Detroit and Chicago Auto Shows

More bad news for the organizers of the 2009 Detroit Auto Show as less than eight weeks before the Cobo Hall opens its doors to the press and public alike in mid-January, Nissan and its luxury affiliate Infiniti have canceled plans to participate at the (supposedly) largest auto gathering in North America. According to Automotive News, the Japanese automaker has also withdrawn from the forthcoming Chicago Auto Show in February, citing in both cases "depressed economic conditions".

The announcement comes only a few days after Mitsubishi stepped out of the Detroit Show -see here. Up until now, the total number of high-profile brands that have dropped plans to exhibit at the Cobo Hall are six (seven if you take Infiniti into account) and include Ferrari, Land Rover, Rolls-Royce and Suzuki. Something tells us that this might not be the last we hear about the 2009 Detroit Show absentee list...

Video: Infiniti G37 Convertible on the Road, See the Retractable Hardtop in Action

Nissan's upscale Infiniti division lifted the veil off the 2009 G37 Convertible at the Los Angeles Motorshow and from what we've heard, the initial reactions appear to be positive. We've already posted plenty of high-resolution photographs along with a detailed article on the four-seater convertible but this is the first time that we get the chance to see the car and its retractable hardtop in action. But as with the case of the 370Z promo film, Nissan/Infiniti has once again forgotten (?) to add sound to the video. Well, this time we decided to break the silence by including a 1996 song called 'Mint Car' by the British group 'The Cure'. Check out the video after the jump.

Infiniti Drops the Lid on the G37 Convertible at the LA Show

Infiniti G37 ConvertibleInfiniti has just released new pictures and details of its all-new G37 Convertible as the vehicle made its world premiere today at the 2008 Los Angeles Auto Show. The first-ever G Convertible is based on the latest generation G37 Coupe with which it shares the 3.7-liter V6 engine rated in the U.S. at 325HP. The engine is backed by a choice of an electronically controlled 7-speed automatic transmission with available magnesium paddle shifters or a close-ratio 6-speed manual gearbox.

Infiniti G37 ConvertibleThe four-seater G37 Convertible maintains a coupe-like profile with the top up thanks to a three-piece retractable hardtop that allows the use of a shorter rear overhang and low boot lid. Infiniti says that compared to the G37 Coupe, the Convertible utilizes all-new body panels from the A-pillar back, along with a 28mm wider overall width, broader rear track and modified rear suspension. With a touch of a button on the center console, the retractable hardtop stows in approximately 30 sec, which is about 8 sec more than what the BMW 3-Series Convertible needs for the same process.

The Convertible retains the interior design of the Coupe version adding a rear pop-up bar and available headrest audio speakers, wind deflector and climate controlled front seats.

Other technology features include standard RearView Monitor and an available touch-screen Infiniti Navigation system with XM NavTraffic Real-Time Traffic information with 9.3GB Music Box Hard Drive, Pre-Crash Seat Belts, Intelligent Cruise Control (ICC) with Preview Braking and Adaptive Front lighting System (AFS).

In the Unites States, the G Convertible is offered in two models, the G37 Convertible and the G37S Convertible Sport 6MT, which adds sport-tuned steering and larger sport brakes, along with 19-inch aluminum-alloy wheels and W-rated performance tires.

Also available is a special, limited production G Convertible Premier Edition, offered exclusively through the Bloomingdale's Holiday Catalog. The Premier Edition features a custom Monaco Red Leather leather-appointed interior, handcrafted red-tone Maple Wood trim, Midnight Black front grille and 9-spoke 19-inch aluminum-alloy wheels and tires. For those interested, only 200 will be built with pre-orders being taken now for delivery in 2009.

The G37 Convertible is scheduled to go on sale at Infiniti dealerships throughout the U.S. in early 2009 with European markets following in late summer 2009.

Infiniti G37 Convertible: One More Picture Before the Official Debut

European Infiniti’s Get Different Looks & More Powerful Engines

If you travel to Europe over the next year and you happen to drive an Infiniti, you might be surprised by the differences between the American and European models. All in all, Infiniti says that its engineers are making 300 to 500 changes per car to the Euro-bound models in order to meet customer needs across the pond. And mind you, these changes are quite significant as they even include a larger displacement, 3.7-liter V6 engine with 320Hp for the new FX instead of the US-Spec 303Hp 3.5 V6. -Continued

Other changes include quality knobs in the dashboard that are more Mercedes / BMW-like, new stabilizers, larger braking systems, heavier window seals - even a new seven-speed automatic transmission is planned for the Euro models. Now that doesn’t sound fait at all, does it…

Nissan to Release 9 All-New Models In 2008 Including 370Z and Cube

Nissan released an outline of its new five-year business plan called “Nissan GT 2012” (with “G” for growth and “T” for trust), which covers the period from April 1, 2008, to March 31, 2013. Somewhere in-between its sales forecast and revenue outlook, the Japanese carmaker also revealed that it will launch nine all-new products during the 2008 fiscal year that ends in March 2009.

Apart from the Nissan Teana, Infiniti FX, Nissan Maxima and Nissan Qashqai+2 that we’ve already seen, Nissan said that in the next 12 months we’ll see the Bakkie successor, a mini SUV, the new Cube, the 370Z (pictured above) and the Infiniti G37 Convertible that we told you about earlier today. -Continued

Infiniti G37 Convertible Officially Announced

The long-awaited convertible version of Infiniti’s G Coupe will be introduced during the fiscal year 2008 which started in April 2008 and ends in March 2009 according to an official announcement made by Nissan’s CEO, Carlos Ghosn during the unveiling of the company’s “GT 2012” mid term business plan (we’ll have more on that later on).

Although Nissan didn’t release any more details, it is rumored that the G37 convertible may get an electric folding hard-top like its main competitor, the BMW 3-Series Cabriolet. What’s for certain is that the G37 Convertible will come equipped with the same 330H 3.7-liter V6 engine as its coupe sibling.

Nissan’s Wall Sculpture Hints at Next Generation 350Z Coupe

The fuzzy looking sculpture you see in the above picture was hung on a wall of a meeting room in Portugal where Nissan organized its annual product review. According to Edmund’s Senior Editor John O’Dell who took the picture, Nissan’s Design Chief Shiro Nakamura told journalists that the sculpture represents “a new Nissan that people would be seeing more of in the fall” – aka the next generation Z Coupe which will go on sale next year.

And if that wasn’t enough to stir a commotion, Nakamura decided to treat the journalists with a dark red design study that he said “contained elements of future design treatments for Nissan's upscale Infiniti division”. Even if these two pictures create more questions that the ones they answer, you have to admit that they do spark our imagination.

Infiniti G35 + Dog With Stomach Pains Equals Dirty Disaster

There are more reasons than we can think of why one shouldn’t leave a dog in a car even with the windows open. For one the dog might be sick as the owner of this Infiniti G35 Coupe found out after leaving his beloved female boxer in the car for about 10 minutes… We’ll leave the owner of the coupe that goes by the nickname “98intrigue” on the G35driver forum explain all the details in his own words:

"So story goes.... I drove home to Tampa to see this girl that I met on my cruise a few weeks back. I go inside to let the girl know I was there, not thinking she wouldn't be off yet. So I'm waiting for her to get off work and I left my dog in the car for 10 minutes. I go check on her and everything is fine. Then 5 minutes later, I go to put something in my car anddddd this is what I see…"

-Continued after the jump but be warned; the images are quite nasty

"The day after...before starting to clean. I had already wiped down everything with a paper towel to try to get as much as I could off the night before.

I spent 8 hours cleaning the interior. Unfortunately, it got in all the little holes in the seats. I did everything I could...from using a terry towel, a brush, and even a tooth brush. Nothing would take it out of the holes. I sprayed probably 10x as much leather cleaner/condtioner as I should have to attempt to relieve the smell. FAIL! My car still smells like crap. I sprayed it down with Lexol leather conditioner a few days ago, which helped a little...but the crap smell is just as bad after sitting in the sun for more than 10 minutes.

Then I took her to the beach Sunday for some fun. I love my dog...
Since I now know this is all over the internet now, I want to point out a few things. I know this was my fault. In regards to the G37 comment...I'm not a spoiled rich kid. I get it from everyone because I'm young, but every dollar in this car is mine and I've worked my *** off for it.

My dog was in the car at night, with temps in the low 70s. The windows were half way down and the sunroof was open. I did my best to accommodate her. The car was in my sight the entire time...I could see her moving around in my car, unfortunately I didn't see her pooping. My dog was sick for 3 days following this incident...I've never once fed her table scraps or any food other than dog food. And the smell is pretty much gone. Lexol FTW!"

Huh? Konigseder Offering New Bodykit for Previous Generation Infiniti FX to Europeans...

Yes Infiniti will begin selling cars in Europe this October and yes the FX SUV will be among those cars available. Difference is that Infiniti will bring the new, 2009 FX into the European market and not the previous model. Having said that, we were quite confused with the photo that Konigseder matted to its official press release as it shows the 2008 FX fitted with an aggressive bodykit. Here’s what the company’s press release stated:

“Since Nissan launched the Europe wide distribution of the luxury brand Infiniti on the Geneva car show tuners are now naturally interested in these cars. In order to not only follow trends but also to set these it is necessary to be in the vanguard and so it is not surprising that Konigseder is already offering a finished bodykit for the FX series at the time of the European launch”

So unless Infiniti has decided to either bring both generations to Europe or import used cars from North America, we fail to see the use of this particular bodykit in Europe...

2009 Infiniti FX37: Europeans get 320 Hp 3.7 V6 Version…

Funny, isn’t it; Infiniti hasn’t even begun selling cars on the other side of the Atlantic and Europeans are already getting the best that the company has to offer. See, while Infiniti announced that the entry-level 2009 FX in the North American market will be the FX35 that’s powered by a 303 Hp 3.5-liter V6 unit, Europeans will be happy to know that they will get the FX37 equipped with a slightly detuned version of the G37’s 3.7-liter V6 delivering 320 Hp at 7,000 rpm and 360Nm or 265.5 lb-ft of torque.

The FX37 will be available with a new seven-speed automatic transmission with Adaptive Shift Control (ASC) and AWD as standard. Buyers will be able to choose among two major option packs: Sport and Multimedia. The Sport pack includes among other things, active Continuous Damping Control system with electronically controlled shock absorbers while the multimedia pack is based around a top-end Bose 11 speaker audio system and the latest satellite navigation system with voice recognition.

“FX37 is a significant model for Europe and we expect it to account for as much as 80 per cent of FX sales,” says Jim Wright, Vice President Infiniti Europe. “By combining excellent handling and punchy performance with genuine luxury and SUV practicality, FX37 will appeal to customers who appreciate quality and individuality.” The FX37 will go on sale across Europe together with the G37 Saloon, G37 Coupe, EX37 and FX50 (see here) starting from October 2008.
