Get excited DTM fans because there’s a new kid coming to town. We’re talking about Audi’s freshly revealed A5 Coupe racecar, internally named “R17,” that will replace the four-door A4 with which Audi has conquered the DTM title four times since 2004.
Ingolstadt’s new touring model is based on the facelifted A5 Coupe that was presented earlier this week and it complies with the new technical and safety regulations that will come in effect in the German touring model championship next year.

2012 Audi A5 Coupe, Convertible and Sportback Receive a Mild Facelift

Audi today unveiled the facelifted versions of its A5 range which includes the Coupe, the Sportback and Cabriolet models. The company’s goal was to freshen up the A5’s exterior looks and to improve both their driving dynamics and fuel economy.
The 2012 Audi A5 range is available exclusively with direct injection engines featuring forced induction and stop-start and energy regeneration system as standard. As a result, Audi says fuel consumption has been decreased across the range by 11% on average and CO2 emissions by as much as 22%.

2010 Audi A5 and S5 Cabriolet: 25 High-Res Photos and Official Details

Audi has lifted the covers on the all-new A5 and S5 Cabriolet models (way) ahead of their worldwide debut at the Geneva Motorshow in March 2009. Scheduled to go on sale in Europe in Spring 2009 with the U.S. following in Fall of the same year, the A5/S5 Cabriolets will replace the long-lived, open-top variant of the A4. Even though most of the competition in the category like the BMW 3-Series Convertible, Infiniti G37 Convertible and Lexus IS 250C have opted for retractable hardtops, Audi has chosen a fully automatic classic fabric top that opens in 15 sec and closes in 17 sec.

At launch, the four-seater convertible will be offered with three gasoline and two diesel engines. These include the 2.7-litre and 3.0-litre V6 diesels with outputs of 190HP and 240HP respectively, two 2.0-litre TFSI petrol units with 180HP and 211HP and a 3.2-litre V6 FSI petrol with 265HP. Available power trains include a six-speed manual transmission, the continuously variable multitronic, and the dual-clutch seven-speed S tronic. In addition to front-wheel drive, Audi also offers quattro permanent all-wheel drive for the higher-power engine

As we have already informed you, the range-topping S5 Cabriolet will benefit from the S4's newly developed, supercharged, three-liter V6 engine which will also replace the current S5 Coupe's 4.2L V8 in 2009. The power output tops out at 333HP while the torque between 2,900 and 5,300 rpm remains constant at a hefty 440 Nm (324.53 lb-ft).
The 3.0 TSI V6 will be available with either a six-speed manual gearbox or the seven-speed dual clutch S-Tronic transmission. The S5 Cabriolet goes from standstill to 100 km/h (62mph) in 5.6 and accelerates up to a preset top speed of 250 km/h (155.34 mph). According to the German firm, the drop-top S5 achieves an average fuel consumption of 9.6 liters per 100 km (24.5 US mpg).

In Europe, where the A5 Cabriolet will be also be offered with an entry-level 1.8 TSI gasoline engine delivering 160HP, prices will start at €37,300. Delivery of the first A5 Cabriolet models will begin in the second quarter of 2009.

Audi will publish the first official images and details off the new A5 Cabriolet and its S5 sibling by the end of the week, according to rezza foournito sources. Unlike the BMW 3-Series Convertible, Infiniti G37 Convertible and the Lexus IS 250C, Audi continues to resist the trend toward retractable hard tops preferring to equip the A5 and S5 Cabriolets with a more traditional and less complicated/heavy, electric folding canvas roof.Power options for the A5 Cabriolet will remain the same as the Coupe offerings minus the 2.0 TDI. The range will include 2.7-litre and 3.0-litre V6 diesels with outputs of 190HP and 240HP, two 2.0-litre TFSI petrol units with 180HP and 211HP and a 3.2-litre V6 FSI petrol with 265HP.

Our sources have also confirmed that S5 Cabriolet will be offered from launch with the S4's brand-new 3.0-liter supercharged V6 petrol engine that pumps out 333HP and a hefty 440 Nm (324.53 lb-ft) of torque. Power will be channeled to all four-wheels through a six-speed manual gearbox or optionally, via Audi's new seven-speed dual-clutch S-Tronic transmission. In 2009, the same powertrain will also replace the current S5 Coupe's 354HP 4.2-liter V8 unit.

Both the A5 and S5 Cabriolets are expected to go on sale by spring 2009.

Audi A5 Sportback Rendered to Perfection

Sometimes artists renderings are so good that they blur the lines between reality and imagination. This particular CGI (computer generated image) of Audi's forthcoming A5 Sportback was created by the artistic folks over at CWW Car Design and it gives us a pretty good idea of how the coupe-hatchback variant of the A5 will look like when it goes on sale in mid- 2009. The A5 Sportback will be based on the A4 / A5 underpinnings combining styling elements from the A5 coupe, A4 saloon and A4 Avant models.

As you'd expect, the stylish A5 Sportback will be offered at launch with the option of front-wheel-drive or four-wheel (quattro) versions as well as with a wide range of petrol and diesel engines including the 160HP 1.8-liter TSI, 211HP 2.0-liter TSI, and 143 and 170HP 2.0 TDI, and the 240HP 3.0 TDI.

In 2010 the A5 Sportback line-up will be enhanced with the addition of the range-topping S5 that will benefit from the same 3.0-liter supercharged V6 TFSI engine that's under the hood of the new S4 Sedan and Avant models. The direct-injection 3.0 TFSI cranks out 333HP at 5,500 rpm and a maximum torque of 440 Nm (324.53 lb-ft) which is maintaed constantly between 2,500 - 4,850 rpm. In the S5 Sportback, power will be transferred to the road through a six-speed manual gearbox or optionally, via Audi's S-Tronic 7-speed dual clutch transmission.

Audi A5 Coupe with 53mpg 2.0 TDI Available for Order in the U.K.

Audi is expanding its A5 Coupe line-up in the U.K. with the introduction of a new 2.0-liter, 4-cylinder diesel engine option. The A5 2.0 TDI is available to order now in front-wheel-drive and quattro four-wheel-drive configurations priced from £28,485 and £30,010 OTR respectively with first customer deliveries due in March 2009. The 2.0 TDI diesel engine produces 170HP and 350Nm of torque available from 1,750rpm. Combined with a standard 6-speed manual gearbox, the front-wheel-drive A5 2.0 TDI goes from naught to 62mph (100km/h) in 8.3 seconds while its four-wheel-drive sibling is slightly faster at 8.2 seconds

However, what the A5 2.0 TDI quattro gains in traction it loses in consumption as it achieves a fuel economy of 47.9 mpg UK (40mpg US or 5.9lt/100 km) in the combined European cycle versus the FWD version's 53.3mpg UK (44.4mpg US or 5.3lt/100 km).

The diesel-powered A5's launch also coincides with the U.K. market introduction of the "S line" specification for all A5 models, available at a premium of £2,250 over standard trim.

Audi A5 Sportback: Coming in 2009?

With carmakers searching to cover every single niche, we can’t say that we’re surprised with the Audi A5 Sportback shown here in an artist’s impression from Car magazine. The Brits support that the development of the hybrid coupe-station wagon-hatchback model is well underway with production slated to begin as soon as early 2009.
Slotting between the A4 and the A6, the Sportback depicted here combines styling elements from the A5 Coupe, A4 Sedan and A4 Avant with a low roofline, frameless side windows and a liftback-style slopping tailgate. When (or if - take your pick), the A5 Sportback enters the market it will available with the same turbocharged 4-cylinder 2.0 TFSI and V6 FSi units offered in the A4/A5 models.

Audi A5 Cabriolet Renderings

We still have a year or so before Audi launches the A5 Cabriolet into the market next spring, but a member of the Germancarzone called "Quinty" decided to give us a preview of the car by photoshopping an A5 Coupe into a soft-top convertible. The A5 Convertible is expected to employ the same 4-cylinder, V6 and V8 engines as found in the Coupe with power ranging from 170 Hp for the 1.8TFSI to 355 Hp for the 4.2 V8. -More pics after the jump
